objectum sexuals - have you heard of this? Are you one yourself? Private polling and interesting information!

Contributor: Peggi Peggi
I recently discovered a new type of, I suppose what you would call a "sexual orientation", which is the sexual attraction and love for an inanimate object. I have heard of such things as being in love with inflatable pool toys, cars, etc, but I just watched an incredibly informative documentary on this, and now have a totally new view of it all!

My fascination only comes with the fact that this is new to me, but in a way, I see it as no different than any other type of love or relationship, but I am just wondering what your stance is on it. If you would like the basic information, wikipedia had some info on it, and the documentary that I viewed can be found here, called Married To the Eiffel Tower.

I think the saddest part of the video was when Amy is not allowed to have a moment with one of her loves while visiting the city.

So, what are your thoughts?

There was a guy on My Strange Addiction that was in love with his car and would masturbate on it and everything....it's certainly odd but to each his own I guess.

I have heard about it, embarrassed to admit I saw it while watching the Tyra Banks show. Sometimes the things she had on there were so odd I had to watch.

I also saw the show and episode Geogeo was talking about.

I'm pretty sure it was also on the Nat.Geo. show Taboo. Ah, love that show! I think that is where I saw the guy in love with a mannequin and one with several life like/life size EXPENSIVE dolls.

I saw the one you mentioned, Peggi as well as one about a woman in love with the Berlin Wall.

I'd never heard the term before, but I have heard of this happening with people. Reminds me of the documentary Guys and Dolls, which features men that prefer sex dolls over women. One of the men (maybe more, but one particularly stands out in my memory) seemed genuinely in love with his doll.

I guess there's no harm in it. No reason to judge.

I have heard of it. I did see something with the guy and his car. He was in love with that car. I would stare if I saw a person really humping their car and doing other things with it. I probably couldn't help myself. It's like when I see my Chihuahua try to hump my cat. I can't help but look because it's like WTF??

There was an episode of House were the guy loved his sex doll. But I love some of my toys, so I can't say anything about loving objects.

There is a show called My Secrete Addiction. I have watched it a few times on ondemand. A man was in love with his cars. He hugs, kisses, and has sex with them. He said that he got turned on while washing one of them and thats why he does it. Another girl is addicted to drinking nail polish while another female is addicted to smelling and now drinking gasoline. Women who are obsessed with their finger and toe nails be long (like over a foot long).
It was the most disturbing show I've seen in a long time.

Do you think any of us would be object-sexuals since we use Dildos and Vibrators to pleasure ourselves? I mean some of us have favorite toys we like to use more than others. We take care of them right and we get upset if they break or malfunction. What are your thoughts?

hmmm I've heard of it and I find it fascinating, mostly because I don't understand it, bookmarking that video you mentioned to watch later.

I don't think the use of sex toys is actually objectum sensualis because they are being used as tool, either for masturbation or with an other person.

I doubt few of us love our toys above and beyond a relationship with an other person. Sure, some sex toy users are between lovers, but most would also have a lover, and can function with a human being as a lover. Most of us can get aroused over people not purely due to a sex toy. We may enjoy our toys, but it isn't the same kind of love we have for human lovers.

I don't see my toys as lovers. They are tools, which help me reach my objective of getting to orgasm. When one Wahl broke, I got an other. If it had broken completely before I had obtained the second one, I would have used my Hitachi, all while still continuing to have sex with my husband.

Using a toy DURING sex, or between partners is not the same as this fetish described above.

I agree with P'Gell. To me, toys are just tools.

I don't think it's a bad or sick thing to be object sexual, but it feels a little 'off' because the objects can't love them back. Clearly they're not hurting anyone with this, and I doubt they put themselves in any danger for the most part, it just comes off as a little lonely to me.

I have heard about this, but I still find it really puzzling. On the one hand, I like to think of myself as open-minded, and I don't think there's anything MORALLY wrong with loving an inanimate object (although sex dolls specifically do give me pause, because it makes me feel like the person wants a relationship with a woman who can't speak/act on her own).

But I digress--I don't think people who are attracted to objects should be judged for it. I can't help but feel, though, that people like this are missing out. Granted, I'm looking at it from the perspective of someone who has been with other people, but..."love," ; to me, entails some kind of relationship, and is it really possible to have a relationship with something that by definition cannot interact with you? I suppose you could draw a parallel with unrequited love, except that even in that case, there is presumably some sort of interaction between the two people. If attraction were based on appearance alone I could sort of see how being in love with an object could be fulfilling, but it's not--there's a whole other dimension to it that has to do with social interactions and the personality of the other person/people.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, yes, I think it would be wrong to judge someone for feeling/acting on this kind of attraction, but I am not entirely convinced that it's healthy. Humans are social animals, after all--wanting to form relationships (romantic or not) with others is a basic biological drive.

I think there are too many "sexual orientations" to count. I tend to just mind my own life. I don't really have an opinion about it.

I do agree with you. I'm not in love with my toy yet I posed the question as a whole. Of course not everyone is addicted to their sex toys. The toys are just tools to help reach an objective. That does not mean that someone out there in the real world would or could be addicted to their toys. Men and women have dolls now that are life like to the point of limp dildos all the way up to erect dildos. Self lubing and some can even sound alive. These dolls I'm speaking of go for up to $50,000. The client tells the manufacturer what color eye, hair, and skin to give the doll. Eccentric men and women out there that can afford this, some do fall in love with the toy.

I know someone with it
His primary object fetish is shoes (high heels specifically)

As an off-shoot of this, he has a foot fetish but to him it is more about the feet in the shoes, than the feet themselves.

Hey, whatever floats your boat!

There's a British documentary with other "mechanophiles" as well. It's called "My Lover My Car" or something like that. You can find it on YouTube last time I checked.

I mean, I think it's kind of peculiar, but if they are enjoying themselves and they aren't hurting themselves or others, who am I to judge?

I've heard of it. I wouldn't judge if I saw someone kissing an object for any reason. I've seen some buildings so pretty I'd like to kiss the architect... Why not the building itself? It doesn't really gross me out or anything, though I would rather not see someone trying to actually sex up an object in public.
But at the same time... Some of those people are just gross. I saw a documentary that featured an old man who, um, sexually violated another man's car. What the hell?!
