I remember hearing it a lot back in the day, my parents, grandparents being weirded out how often I picked up feathers, to wear them in my hair, make jewelry with them etc., and it was funny when once I saw my OnlyMaster stop the car and pick up a dead bird to get parts off of it as He always did it, being the very first person in my life Who was never worried about diseases and stuff! (Once I saved a few dead critters I found, a couple of snakes, a small female blackbird, and some other critter I forgot already, but they went bad before I remembered to gather my guts to do anything with them, I kept them hidden from my family until I had to throw them away... ~lol ^^ But I still save dead bugs sometimes and snake skin and stuff, good material for ceremonial magick instead of having to kill any lil ones... ~lol )
So, though it may be different in cities let's say, but what about your relation with the stray feathers? ~smiles cute

I'm from the South--Georgia to be exact. So most people here have grown up around chickens or close by a chicken house. We don't see those kinds of things as "OMG! EWW!" Lol. We pick it up, sniff it and might just cook it and taste it. Hell, most of them won't even bother with the cookin' it! Ha Ha. I'm only kidding a little. But it seems people here are not really freaked out by things like that. My parents and everyone I've known really don't see picking up bugs or feathers from chickens as gross. Most people around here use their own chicken's eggs for Pete's sake. Growing up, we had all kinds of chickens--dominickers, and many more. It's common for people here to collect their feathers. We still have dreamcatchers with real chicken feathers that my grandfather made us as kids and even soon before passing away.

Now I'm all about washing hands, but I don't freak about picking things up. Hell, I've even stuck my nose to chicken poop. As a kid though! I was curious. No big deal. My parents didn't encourage us to pick things up that were weird, but they let us do as we pleased and learn that way. My mom didn't lecture me when I stopped under the tree one morning as we were leaving for church to sniff the chicken poop on the ground. Lol
Now my dad would say "don't pick that up it has germs" if one of us happen to pick up a dead rat by the tail to get rid of it or something, but he doesn't usually just flip over any little thing.
Just another way to learn I guess. My dad would DEFINITELY tell us not to pick up snakes. He's always told us that and still does. For good reason though.
