Sexual Stereotypes

In the world of porn, erotica and fantasy, there are quite a few stereotypes - for example, the well-hung black 'stud' who turns willing white wives into cock-hungry sluts.

As far as stereotypes go, I guess being painted as a well-hung, voracious sexual stud machine isn't exactly the worst - but do you think sexual stereotypes can be a positive thing, or are they always negative?

Just some examples:

Possibly 'positive' stereotypes: The well-hung black 'stud,' the totally insatiable older 'cougar,' the smooth-talking Italian stallion with a name like 'Giorgio'

Negative stereotypes: 'Sucky fucky, me-so-horny' Asian women, frigid WASP housewife who just needs a good, hard fucking to turn her into an insatiable slut, the wimpy, small-dicked husband.

So far, the only stereotype I KNOW 100% to be true in all cases is that redheads are simply fantastic in bed (I can supply references if required.)

I know I've had a lot of guys assume things about me sexually that just weren't so. Okay, so I AM wild in bed- but I've had people automatically assume just because I had tattoos that I'd be willing to indulge in things of a "taboo" nature or I'd be a "freak" in bed. I was a little milder before I married my husband than I am now. Anal sex was a 'no fricken way!' in those days but I had guys telling me that my tattoos and piercings designated me as being someone who was open to the idea of it. Also, the fact I spent most of my high school years at an all-girl Catholic High School resulted in more than a few guys telling me that I must be horny and freaky and wanting to fuck all the time because of all my years of so called "pent up sexual frustration"... I got laid more when I was in high school than I do now after being married for 5 years- lol.

Stereotypes do nothing for society. I mean, how would do guys feel if someone says- "Oh, you have small hands or feet... so you must have a small dick"... ???

Ha! I forgot about the 'former catholic schoolgirl' stereotype! My wife actually fits that one - very buttoned up when she was in high school, then when I met her had totally rebelled, got both nipples pierced and was totally crazy and sexually adventurous (so I married her - no way I was letting THAT slip through my fingers!)

but you're right... So many misconceptions and assumptions... I have to admit, I probably would assume that a girl with tattoos would be fairly sexually adventurous. Shame on me - feel free to administer a well deserved spank. ;-)

One of the things I loathe most is how often it's assumed that because someone is involved in BDSM they're also not monogamous.

BDSM, swinging, open relationships... they're all very different things and the stereotype that one equals the other is definitely a negative.

I don't think it's possible for any sexual stereotype to be positive. For instance, the "well hung" black man stereotype also plays off the idea of African-Americans as wild, untamed animals.

While I will concede that a few stereotypes have a basis in reality (the one that jumps to mind is the prominent stereotype that EF reviewers are teh awesome), usually stereotypes exist to keep societal norms in place, which is obviously uncool. The frigid woman/raging nympho stereotype exists to shame women for not liking sex or for liking it too much. The well-hung black male stereotype exists to keep black men "in their place" by trivializing them and reducing them into sexual objects. The point of both of these stereotypes is to maintain the status quo of the dominant white male patriarchical culture, and quite frankly, I'd like it if they died a quick death.

Not trying to sound nasty, but your positive stereotypes all refer to men, and your negative stereotypes all refer to women. That alone implies a stereotype people have: that all men enjoy sex and only "misguided" women feel the same way. It's all very odd.

The major stereotype I encounter (among others) is because of my physical appearance. I apparently cannot be a lesbian because I have waist-length hair and am petite. Apparently, all lesbians are very butch, and the ones with long hair are always dirty and obese. I must've missed a memo.

Oh, and my favorite: lesbians are just women who haven't found the right man yet.

No! All lesbians have orange tans, peroxide blonde hair, fake nails and big silicon boobs. I know because the porno movies told me!

Stereotypes are so far off and of course so prejudicial. Guys have said to me that they "know" just what I want and need sexually, LOL. One guy was such an ass about this, I pulled out a realistic dil and said "this is for me". He totally freaked out, he thought he was the gift to women.
Just because I have tattoos and long hair they think I am up for anything with anyone and I will thank them yet, for the experience, LOL
Tell a guy that you also have a girl friend, (as I do) they show their true selves dam fast..

I so far can confirm that redheads are a lot of fun in bed. All of the ones I have slept with have all made great sex partners, and for the most part, they seem to have Gspot orgasms via penetration much more readily that other women. This has been my experience anyway, and plus, redheads have lovely freckles and beautiful eyes...

I've been told that since I either identify as bisexual (to explain it easily) or simply sexual (because I don't care for the labels and even if I did, I haven't found one for me), I'm in a phase, or confused. Nope, neither. Unless it's a REEEALLY long phase.

Also, since I am sexually liberated and open-minded, that I will just have sex with anyone. Um....NO. Just because I enjoy sex and am well-versed on the subject does not mean I will sleep with anyone that approaches me.
