Return of Pee-Wee?

I didn't get into Pee Wee's Playhouse when I was a kid because it was on against "The REAL Ghostbusters" at 10am on Saturday mornings.

What do you think?

I love Pee-Wee; hardly anybody gives props to Paul Reubens' brilliance. My best friend has tapes from his show and watching them now - damn, I'm surprised they got away with some of those jokes!

Guest Firefighter: Now, boys and girls, remember that smoke alarms are important devices that you have to have in your home.
Miss Yvonne: I have one right over my bed ...
(Firefighter looks pole-axed for a second.)

Bring on Pee-Wee. We need more surrealism.

(JR - huge Ghostbusters fan here, too. I couldn't decide most Saturdays! 'Do I want my mind fucked with or do I want more fantasy material about Egon?' I was 12 at the time.)

I just heard this this morning and I had to laugh. Watching Pee-Wee when I was a kid irritated the hell out of me and I don't know why, but as I got older, I saw how much adult humor was actually in some of these, and now I won't lie, I'm actually pretty excited for the new movie.

He did stand up right after his "fall". I think it started off with "So, did you see any good movies lately?" or something like that. If he got caught wacking in a theater nowadays, it would've been a LOT different. We prolly would've seen a PeeWee sex tape or something.

Just like Bob Saget, Paul can get pretty raunchy in his stand up.

I love him in Mystery Men as "The Spleen".

Acutally now that I thought about it ...

How many kids were messed up after his scandal? I don't mean what he actually did, but how the adults reacted to it. "Pee-Wee got in BIG trouble for touching himself and my parents are forbidding me from ever mentioning him again - they took away my Playhouse toys and everything."

Really, how did that affect the younger kids??

Bump.

There's talk of a new PeeWee movie in the works.

I'd go see it. I'd wait in line for tickets.

My kids LOVED Pee Wee Herman! My Man would walk in the room, catch some of the adult humor, that obviously went right over our kids' heads and just shake his head and say, "This stuff ain't right. But, SO funny!"

Once one of my kids was in the hospital, and she was a toddler and was freaking out and running all over the place, and screaming and she had ataxia, so she couldn't walk straight, so she was falling all over the place. We couldn't get her settled and the nurses were stating to get upset (shit, she was 17 months old, had a brain infection and was SCARED and sick. You'd act weird, too!) As soon as Pee Wee came on TV, My Man yelled, "Pee Wee's ON!" She ran over to the little chair in front of the TV, sat down and finally calmed down. She eventually went to sleep after the show. She hadn't slept all night, and I was so thankful to Paul Reubens for that.

I know this thread is relatively old, but I found this article yesterday. It's really interesting to hear Pee Wee's side.
