Adult Book Storage

Contributor: Lithaewyn Lithaewyn
For those who have adult books, where do you keep them?

I'm going to start collecting adult material, and while I don't think I necessarily have to hide them, I don't want to be extremely obvious in case I have guests.

I just keep them on my bookshelf in plain sight, and if I'm expecting guests, I'll put them in a drawer. However, if you want to have them handy, I'd say keep them in your bookshelf behind the "front" lining of books. Or just in a drawer.

You could always get book covers.

Under the stairs closet. In a bed drawer. Random places. We just got rid of several, and several more showed up. Perpetual problem along with all the books in my house!

I'm just not quite ready for the kids to read "Threesomes"

Our books are out on the shelves in the living room. If someone decides to look through my books (as I often do in other people's homes), they'll see them and they can think what they like. I understand the impulse to hide them, though, especially depending on your family situation. Or if you have particularly "raunchy" adult material.

If I was going to hide them, I would keep them on a smaller bookshelf in the bedroom. It's not really good for the spines of your books to stack them horizontally, so it seems like the better option to me. It would be even better if you could find a tall bedside table with a hinged cabinet door so that you could put the books inside.

I'll have to remember that if I ever decide to have children.

Thanks for all the suggestions you guys. I got book covers for when I'm reading them, but for now they are mixed up with the rest of my books. I saw a picture of someone's dirty book stash and they had them turned around so the spine isn't facing outward.

Recent events have made me not so worried about it anymore.

I keep mine high up on a bookshelf above my bed, in plain sight. My parents come over all the time and are the kind of people who would say something if they noticed them, which them never have. So I guess that's a pretty decent hiding place!

I have a large locking trunk. When I'm living at home over winter break or the summer, all sex-related stuff lives in there. When I'm at school, the toys go in a drawer, the books stay in the trunk, and my linens migrate in to join them.

My partner and I are real bookworms. One of my vaguely sexual books, 1000 Dessous, stays on one of the bookshelves in the shared living space downstairs because it has a sexy dominatrix on its spine, but most of mine are on one of the bookshelves in our room.

We don't really have issues with people coming over who would be weirded out or offended by this sort of thing. In fact, two of my Tantus stickers are on the fridge. "More orgasms, less work!" and "Make dildos, not war!"

We keep ours locked up with our DVDs. Our house policy with the kids is they can read whatever they want, but I do not want them finding any of these to read!

my books live in plastic boxes under one side of my bed, obvious as it is. my stance is that if anyone goes snooping under my bed they deserve the shock of what they find. I am not ashamed of my yaoi habit. The other side of my bed has my DVDs which are mostly innocent.

I have only a couple of them, but they're currently stashed in my FYN Adult Toybox with a bunch of my toys.

Educational books, out in the open. Pure erotica/smut, in a set of plastic draws in my closet. Although I'm probably going to have to move them I need the draws to store more sex toys.

I keep all adult material in a coffee table that has a hidden storage area, but it has reached its' capacity.

Thanks everyone for the continued responses! Fortunately for me, I now live with my husband so I no longer have to truly worry about hiding my adult material. Guests aren't allowed in our bedroom, so I now just keep them on the shelf on my bedside table!

Keep the responses coming though. You never know when you need to hide your dirty books!

I stash mine in drawers under my bed. You could always use book covers or just put them away when someone comes over.

All of my "dirty" books go on the bookshelves in plain sight. I didn't even know it, but when I was growing up my grandmother kept her harlequin romances on the same shelf-- right next to the children's books!

Then again, these look innocent enough, and the room with said shelving is seldom used.

I have mine on our big over-the-bed set, with glass cabinets, a cubby, and each side has 3 drawers. They go in the cubby, and, since I have an 8 yr old, I've covered them with a couple of decorative pieces. I may be moving them up to the top shelf where the glass doors are soon though.
