All of them have their great artists of "their" time, but I'm partial to the '50s, '60s, '70s, and '80s. There are some artists I like today, but I don't really dig the message of their music so much as the arrangement of the song itself.

None of the above.
I believe the greatest music ever written was during the later half of the 17th century through the early 19th century. I do enjoy music from 1900-present, however in terms of creativity and complexity, I don't think it holds a candle to the early masters.
In fact, a lot of what we listen today can trace its roots to classical music. This is great (and funny) rant about Pachelbel's Canon:

I think they all have their pluses but I'm a big 80s fan so that's what I voted for

I am an 80's girl--graduated in 1988, so, like, duh--of course, like I am like going to so totally like pick the 80's!! I used to get sooooo pissed when my best friend did her valley girl crap in high school--now i think it is hilarious and so very, very stupid. Still annoying, though-had to pass it on and share the irritation, LOL!!
It was a tight run with the 70's, though. Many of my favorites are in that decade as well.

So true! I'm in my late forties, so my favorites are mostly from the 80s, but there are also some from the 70s that I like (i.e. Low Rider by War - still playing on the radio stations).

We have favorites from all eras, so it's difficult to narrow to a decade.
That said, each decade also had its share of songs that sucked, too!

I'm torn between the 50's and somewhere between the 80's and 90's. With the fifties they had the voices unlike today, the songs really meant something, With the 80's and 90's came great rock!

For me it was the 90's

I love me some power ballads and hair band music.

I just love 90s music. Sure, a lot of crap came out then too but most of my favorite bands either came out with their best work then or started in the early 90s.

I can't choose just one...
