I grew up with MTV. It was my place to turn when the world looked dark and there was no place for me in society. I would turn it on and turn myself off. There use to b ethese things called music videos...There videos with music, incase no one knows what the funk I'm talking about. My gods lived there! I knew all there names and I wordshiped them. I wanted to be them. Now all I see is Teen Wolves, Spray tanned Douches, and peoplebeating the hell out of eachother just to sleep with a bald ex-rocker who has the clap...and is married! Does anybody else remember the days? What was your favorite video? I liked the wierd stuff over on MTV2. Rabbit OIn the Headlights was a good one...man I miss those days...
What the hell happened to MTV!?!?!

MTV jumped the shark on the third season of the Real World. It just tumbled downhill. The same man responsible for those shows is also responsible for half of the other reality shows on the rest of the channels. And you can blame Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell for the rest.
My favorite videos were...all of them. I grew up watching Michael and Janet Jackson videos, Madonna, Tears for Fears, Metallica...I remember when MTV spawned VH1 to deal with the bubble gum pop and soft rock that started coming out. I remember Headbanger's Ball, Remote Control, Rock n Roll Jeopardy (awesome show!), and I remember the first time TRL played a boy band.
I don't think the Truman Show helped matters, either. I think people are really interested in seeing how the other side lives, regardless of what side it is. If it's different, sensational or heartstring-tugging in anyway people want to see it.
Not all people, mind you. But, the demand seems to be there since there are more reality shows, news outlets and docudramas on the air than there ever has been in the history of television.

I miss the old MTV, too. And every time I miss it, I'm reminded of Bowling for Soup's song "1985". link

My husband and I talk about this all the time! We miss the music videos so much. Our first few months together, we used to watch them every morning together after we got up. I miss The Killers esp.
