I was wondering what people are reading now. I tend to read more fiction in the summer.

I have a couple of books about 1930 gangsters (old school, probably half of them relatives ) I got from the library and I have just started re-reading IT ... more
I am in the middle of a fascinating and humourous read called Good Time Girls: of the Alaska-Yukon Gold Rush by Lael Morgan, about the prostitutes and other disreputable ladies who were the first female pioneers in the Last Frontier.

Next on the stack is one of my annual guilty pleasures, Smokin' Seventeen by Janet Evanovich (Stephanie Plum Series).

I love reading outside in the hammock all summer long. That is my idea of "the life" for sure!

Thanks, Redboxbaby. I have to look into those.

I'm currently reading Anthony Bourdain's Medium Raw about being a "celebrity chef" (a title he hates) food porn and all things FOOD! I LOVE Bourdain (and it doesn't hurt that he looks like My Man, so I think he's HOT) and have read most of what he has written.

There's an entire chapter in the book called "Food Porn" where Anthony waxes poetic about some of the best foods he's ever eaten in the style of the nastiest erotica. It's a great book.

Bourdain is the host of No Reservations the travel/food porn TV show.

I just finished "The Ghost King" by R.A. Salvatore. I was so sad at the end. He kills off 3 characters. Two of them have been around for like 15 years! The other I didn't read that much of, so I was "meh" on it.

I am halfway through reading Safe Word which is the sequel for Carrie's Story. I bought both books through EF.

I love his show! I will have to check out that book next time I am in the book store or the library! If not only for the "Food Porn" chapter!

Mario Puzo's The Godfather. It's a yearly read for me, along with Atlas Shrugged, which I just wrapped.

I also have an anthology of Calvin and Hobbes that I like to sit on the front porch and giggle over.

I just finished reading "Carnal Machines". I don't think many of the authors were really familiar with steampunk, however, all but one of the stories was still fun to read.

I have a growing adoration for Steam Punk. I read Jules Verne as a young girl and I LOVE this stuff. I really want to get Carnal Machines and read it.

JR, I am not familiar with Salvator. What kind of fiction does he write? I am always wanting to read new good writers.

RedBox, the whole book is good. Anthony goes on a rampage about Celeb Chefs he hates. I love a good rant!

Jaimes, we have a lot of Calvin and Hobbs. My kids, myself and My Man are always reading them. One of the best comics ever written. It's a shame the artist retired. He said he was out of ideas and decided to quit before he started repeating himself. That is admirable, but I MISS Calvin.....and Hobbs. For years, we would have a rotating bits of this comic on our fridge.

Padmea, I do have to get to Carrie's Story.

So many books, so little time.

Our family loves Calvin and Hobbs! My son randomly quotes and acts out (not so much anymore) some of his favorites. We have the Collector's Edition Volumes I, II, and III.

I just finished "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime". It was supposed to be amazing, but I was not that impressed.

Now I'm reading "Howl", which is a compilation of doggie related stories by the editors of The Bark magazine. This is an AWESOME read. If you're a dog-lover I highly recommend it!

I'm also currently reading "The Invention of Heterosexuality". It's probably pretty dry for most people, but as a soon-to-be grad student in human sexuality, it's totally blowing my mind. Also highly recommended to anyone who's interested in sexuality and why we are the way we are.

I just finished "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime" a few months ago, I really enjoyed it. I worked with autistic kids for a few years, so I really appreciated the way the book was written and for me, that is why I picked it up to begin with.

"The Invention of Heterosexuality" sounds fascinating to me. I will have to look for it tomorrow when I head into town for my monthly shopping excursion!

Now I'm reading "The Long Dark Tea Time Of The Soul" by Douglas Adams. If you haven't read his "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" books, you really should. They could make a corpse laugh.

And now I'm re-reading "Bet Me" by Jennifer Crusie. It's a great romantic comedy.

I have a HUGE stack of books that I've been trying to get through for months and it just keeps growing! This summer I've actually made a pretty good dent in it though, while managing not to add to it too much haha.

I'm currently reading Kurt Vonnegut's "Hocus Pocus". I'm a huge Vonnegut fan and I'm hoping to finish off the list of his novels by the end of the year.

Before this I was reading "The Virgin Suicides" by Jeffrey Eugenides.
Next I think I'm going to read "Gulliver's Travels" by Jonathan Swift, which I've never read before.

Currently reading Emotions Revealed by Paul Ekman. Quite good, though I do keep on getting distracted by trying out all the faces he talks about, and trying to remember all the instances he describes, to elicit feeling.

Here we go:

When on lunch breaks at work, I'm reading Cat on the Edge.
At home, I'm reading The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls, reattempting House of Leaves, and rereading Felidae.

So, four books at once, in alternate sittings. I think my sanity fell out of my head long ago.
