I watched the first episode last night I loved it. I want to know what everyone else thinks.

Never heard of it. What station is it on??
09/13/2012
Haven't seen it

I didn't watch it because to me it just looked like another show with caricature gay characters. I'm all for gay relationships on TV, just not if they're going to stereotypes. Again, I haven't watched the show, so I may be way off base here, but that's what the commercials made it seem like.

If there's one certain in the universe, it's that the marketing department of a television network will always make a way to make good shows look awful. I thought the show looked pretty bad from the ads, but watched it anyway, and really liked it. I didn't think the characters were any flatter (and therefore stereotypical) than any other sitcom characters in a pilot episode, and they showed potential for real growth.

Watched part of it. Okay...but sure pushes the envelope. Not sure if I like it or not. Waiting to see a few more before I decide. We do find Modern Family (which THIS show is trying to copy) pretty light and funny.

These stereotypes are true of EVERY group on TV shows. It is all Hollywood knows. We are friends with several gay couples, and are going to actually be part of a wedding ceremony for one couple next month. Their "real lives" are as boring as us hetero folks. They have to get up, go to work, get home make dinner, clean the dog poop in the yard, put gas in the car and do the laundry on Sunday morning. They squabble about the SAME stuff we do, and while SOME stereotypes might have a grain of truth (they all seem to dress very well...COME ON FOLKS...Have a sense of humor)....the fact is, we have learned the GAY lifestyle and the STRAIGHT life style is just LIFESTYLE. There is no damned such thing. Some PEOPLE live exciting lives, some live boring lives and guess what...their orientation, or who they love has NOTHING to do with any of that!!! Thus, my gripe with Hollywood and these TV shows is not an issue, other then if the show makes me laugh, or smile or whatever. I sure don't go there for reality.

I've watched the first two episodes on Hulu. I dig it. It's funny and I enjoy the two leads.

Never seen it, but I heard about it from American Decency. I personally won't be watching. I'm just not big on TV. I never watch TV these days.

I watched some of it (clips and such) -- really didn't like it. It's more generic super-handsome, super-clean, wealthy, twinkish white gays. It plays up almost every stereotype imaginable, but tones them down enough for most not to care. Pushes stereotypes, making complex issues and people black-and-white. Even the show name leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe it's just not my type of show.
And of course, the show's main premise is the generic white male gay couple wants a biological baby. Because the best way to get straight people to like you is to assimilate yourself with them: Have a kid, dress nice, be religious, get married... Bah, humbug.
I guess you could argue the stereotyping and putting people into convenient little "boxes" and labels are just what shows like this do. I suppose that's why I don't watch any shows in a similar style, besides Shameless (which manages to break the mold and actually be interesting).
