Who else is excited for it? I always loved it more than the actual trilogy and I can't wait to see it come to life, but I don't understand how they're splitting it into two movies.

I'm looking forward to it with reservations. I wasn't too terribly pleased with what Peter Jackson did with the Lord of the Rings as far as the character derailment is concerned. I'll also be very, very disappointed if poor Beorn is cut out once again--he's part of the funniest bit in the whole book!
However, I will be interested in seeing how they parse the vulcan-like elves they used for Lord of the Rings with the elves in the Hobbit who sang stuff like
"O! Where are you going,
With beards all a-wagging?
No knowing, no knowing
What brings Mister Baggins,
And Balin and Dwalin
Down into the valley
In June
Ha ha!"

Looking forward to it big time. I keep smacking myself for being lazy about reading the books, but I enjoyed the movies a lot.

Very anxiously awaiting it! I have read all the books many times and I loved the LotR movies.
