Stephen King's - Under the Dome

Contributor: Woman China Woman China
My sister bought me Stephen Kings, "Under the Dome" as a Christmas present and have just gotten around to reading it. As usual, the first 106 pages of the book were a little on the boring part, but as soon as I turn to page 107... golly it became addicting!!!

After doing some looking on the net about it, I discovered that there will be a TV show about it!!! I am so excited to see what is going to happen with it! I wonder if it will be similar to that Haven episode where the girl witht he Trouble thought everyone was in the snow globe?

But... who has read the book and who is looking forward to the TV show?

No time to sit down and properly read a book, but I'll definitely watch the show when it begins!

...and I'm also patiently waiting for a new season of Haven!

I have read the book, and it was pretty good. I would like to see the movie, but I don't think I've seen a good Stephen King adaptation in a very long time.

However, more recently, I liked the 11/22/63 novel. For me, that was the best Stephen King novel I've read in years.

I LOVE the book. I've read it three times. I can't wait for the miniseries.

I loved the book!!! It was one of his better ones--there have been a couple iffy ones in the last few years...His movies I usually avoid due to the fact they are not as good as the book, however I do try to catch the TV ones--they tend to be longer mini-series that follow the books fairly well.

I think Stephen King film/TV adaptations are usually terrible (but entertaining!)
I read half of Under The Dome and then stopped for some reason and had my mom explain the rest of the plot... I should read it again fully this time! I don't own a TV but I would certainly love to watch the miniseries online.

I haven't read it yet - it's in the stack of "needs to be read at some point" . I probably won't watch the miniseries when it comes out, as I'll want to read the book first.

I credit a lot of this to Mick Garris. He directs most of the Stephen King stuff. Not a fan.

I've been meaning to read the book for ages! I hope the tv adaption does it justice, some King adaptions just don't work.

Finished reading the book a couple days ago... I have to say I have mixed feelings about it.

I mean seriously!!!! Seriously!!! What was with that ending?

The white room/ants thing was uber neat and new but predictable after the discussion (trying not to spoil it). I felt the ending was just abrupt and just too "quick" for the ending. King spent all that time developing the characters, and just... ended it without really giving the reader anything.

So... I'd give the book a great rating if I were reviewing it, but the last say three pages/ending? I'd give a failing grade.

But I am so looking forward to the show! I love comparing things, and comparing the flick to the book... fantastic!!

Yes! That is why I was lukewarm on the book. The ending just sucked. 11/22/63 was so much more satisfying (and a really great, almost vintage-quality King read).

Another book I read where the end sucked so bad that I almost regretted reading it was Into the Woods, by Tana French I think it was. Great book with a totally botched end. I'm still ranting about it!

When/where is the Miniseries on? I might still try to catch it anyway.

That's interesting, I really didn't care for 11/22/63 too much. Stephen King is not a romance writer and I think he tried way too hard to be one.

But I will agree, the ending of Under The Dome seemed too abrupt, almost like King gave up and wanted to end the novel.

I read very few novels and will likely never read this. I will likely give the show a shot, just to see what all the hullabaloo is about.

I usually like Stephen King stuff, so I should be more excited when I hear these things.

I haven't read the book, but Stephen King is also a little overrated for me. Oh...and congrats for your ability to stick with the book for that long! Maybe 5 boring pages, and I'm done!
