R.I.P. Phyllis Diller (July 17, 1917 – August 20, 2012)

Phyllis Diller, the comedienne and actress, died yesterday at her home in the Brentwood, CA. She was 95. The New York Times has posted a piece in the online arts & television section that covers her accomplishments. She may not have been the first comedienne to take the stage, but she was the first to do so without a male partner (Lucy had Desi, and Gracie had George). The Guardian (UK) called her a trailblazer and also lauded her accomplishments.

She was before my time, but I remember her clip from the Muppet Show.

She was a class act.

I loved this one:

“I once wore a peekaboo blouse. People would peek and then they’d boo.”
