ccording to a ton of talking going on on both sides, PS4 and Xbox 720 will not be able to play used games. meaninmg once you buy it and pop it in your system, it's yours! Once that happens you can lend it to someone else but they will only be able to play a small portion of the game much like a demo. So, going to gamestop to buy used games is gone! It's also not backwards compatable...none of them! I for one will not buy any one of these systems. anyone else pissed off by this?

Nooooo thankyou. I'm fairly sure they'll lose business if that happens because games are wayyyyy too expensive. :/

This sounds like a rumor. I don't think they'd actually do it. People would be furious. I can understand it from a business standpoint but I doubt it will happen. And besides that, not everyone has the Internet or uses it for their systems so how would they know that a game being played isn't on the system it was originally bought for? Also, people have multiple systems and this would mess that up. There's just too many issues with this idea.
Besides, there are a lot of useless rumors flying around. As far as I know (and from an article I read that had quotations from the company in it), the Playstation 4 and "720" (which is a stupid title that I hope they're not actually considering because it loses the meaning of 360 and they'll have to just keep doubling it for future systems) will not be announced at E3 so I very much doubt they even have that much work and concrete thought put into the new systems.

I highly doubt that happens. Sony tried with the last psp and it didn't fly and I doubt they'd try again, let alone microsoft jumping in on a failed experiment. If anything I expect more single use DLC codes to start coming with games, kind of the way EA's been doing it with their "online pass" codes.

1st of all, we need new names for the systems.
Secondly, they wont do this cuz itll lose them TONS of money. Everyone would wait for the pricedrop.

Technically, '720' isn't the actual name of the next xbox product, that's merely what we, the userbase, are calling it. The Microsoft techs working on the new model have a different codename for it.
I've heard this, too, and I am 70% certain it's just a rumour. I do recall a Microsoft exec talking about this, but I can't remember if he said one way or another if it's reality.

Either way, I don't care. I only buy games when they are ridiculously on sale or... ahem... find alternate ways with my computer skills. Also, emulators are amazing.

I'm happy to hear that. 720 is THE stupidest name in existence and whoever thought of it should never ever be allowed to do anything creative ever again. Lol. But seriously. It's 360 because 360 degrees is a circle. What is 720? It's just so dumb! And what did they expect them to do? Just keep doubling the number? The next-next gen system is going to be called the 1440? I hope they come up with a good codename for it because I hate 720 so bad. It's just so dumb. Lol.

I heard that gamestop and a lot of stores are saying they wont even sell if thats the case. So they were reconsidering because of business.

I am an avid gamer as is my husband. It's how we fell in love!
That said, I love being able to trade in games that I have completed so many times that I could play blindfolded! I love Gamestop and make weekly visits there even if it just to visit with the employees and not buy a game. They know me, my husband and my son just by our voice so that even when we call ahead of time to see if they have a certain game in stock we don't even have to tell them who we are, they just say they'll have it ready for us when we come into town.
If Microsoft and/or Sony decided to make their consoles solely based on online purchases it could potentially ruin so many pre-owned gaming stores, not to mention any store that sells video games. Many businesses would lose a large amount of their profits! I would not buy the 720 if all I could do was buy games online.
I have bought games via the X-Box 360 Marketplace but only because they were hard to find games or indie games (such as Portal... I did not want The Orange Box only Portal so I bought it with Micro-Points and I've bought Orcs Must Die and A Kingdom for Keflings for my son because because they are not available on disk).

What there going to do is flag the game on your psn account with a one time use code that allows the game to be fully downloaded to your hard drive, Much in the same way as if you bought a PC game. Then if anyone else has the disk there able to play a trial version with the option to buy the game from the PSN, which is stupid beyond words! Seriously check out IGN or G4, there blowing up about it for the past week.

Regardless, it will not be backwards compatable, that is a fact. They say if you want to play PS3 games, then get a PS3, if you want to play PS4 games you buy a PS4. They claim there actually behind the times with this no used-game cap. PC's and Ipod's and smartphones do it, and PC's have been doing it for years, so why not Xbox And Playstation. Truth is this will kill Gamestop and any other used game store. It will be a slow death, but in 5 years they will be as gone as Borders.

Totally on-line with no backwards compatibility? I hope not, because they won't sell for [expletive] compared to the Wii U.

I think might just be a rumor started by a troll. I find it very hard to believe that Microsoft would actually risk everything to attempt this. Sony on the other hand, I actually wouldn't put it past them. That's not a jab to all you PS3 players out there, I just personally think Sony doesn't always think things entirely through before they act. I stopped with Sony at the PS2 and will never purchase a PS3 for many personal reasons. I am looking forward to the new X-Box, what ever it may be called and I don't actually think it will be called the 720 because to me Microsoft has a lot more originality than that...

I wont be buying one if they decided to set them up that way.
