My daughter started playing the violin this year in 4th grade. She already gave up. Lol. Maybe it's too young to start playing instruments. What do you think? Did you?
Did you play a musical instrument in Elementary School?

I started playing the viola in middle school and loved it. Your daughter quitting may just be an interest or peer pressure. I don't think a person can be too young to play a musical instrument.

I picked up the clarinet in 4th grade and played through 8th.

I wanted to, but my family didn't have the money for me to get an instrument. I think I did play the recorder for a couple weeks in elementary school.

Never too young to play an instrument; just find something she likes! I started playing clarinet when I was ten; played for a few years, gave it up, then rejoined the band in high school. Along the way I picked up guitar.
Just encourage her, but don't push her.

In my elementary school everyone was required to learn to play the recorder.
I think it’s kind of young to start instruments in elementary school. I started to learn to play the violin in middle school. I’d say that that’s a good time to start learning instruments. They just seem hard to grasp for elementary school minds. (Some not all) Also depends of if the kid wants to learn the instrument or is being pushed by a parent/teacher.
Recorder was a fairly easy one to learn, violin is much more complicated. Children tend to have short attention spans to.

I played the piano and the violin in Elementary school. I played the piano longer, but sometimes kids need the opprotunity to try new things without it being a long term commitment. It's often a good idea to rent an instrument for a year or two before making a final purchase. We can't all be great musicians, but I believe music education is never a waste. Even though I did not turn into life long player, it shaped my musical tastes and contributed greatly to my enjoyment of all kinds of music today.

Oh yes...a SAXAPHONE. Have not played it since. It is STILL in my attic...48 years later.

Just the standard "everyone has to play a recorder for a little while" classes. I never really got the hang of it, but I was never truly interested in learning to play an instrument in the first place.
My brother played the clarinet for a number of years, though.

When I was in 5th grade, I started with the trombone. I switched to the clarinet after a couple of years. The reason I switched was because a woman who played trombone came to visit and she had difficulty drinking out of a bottle without getting water on her chin--I'd assumed that it was playing the trombone that did it to her, so I decided that playing the trombone wasn't worth it.

I started piano lessons in 3rd or 4th grade and in middle school I started learning cello. I've stuck with it.
