Need some GOOD suggestions of Based on true story movies...

Contributor: Breas Breas
I am a huge fan of movies that are based on true events... My favourites are horror, thrillers, etc but really, as long as its based on true, I'll watch it..

The only problem is, is that I usually do a search of a movie before I watch it to see how factual it really is.. A lot of the movies that are based on true events are so far from the truth it shouldnt even be called "based on true".

Also, I've seen movies that say "based on true events" at the beginning of the movie, and then read online that the every single thing in the movie is fake! Like, the one movie "The Fourth Kind". I get so dissapointed when I find stuff out like this.

One of my favourite based on true movies is the old Helter Skelter movie... I also really like movies that are on the Lifetime Network as they are quite good.

Anyways, do you have any suggestions?

Heavenly Creatures is a really good movie about two young girls who wanted to be together and one of the mothers was vehemently opposed---so they killed her.

Ed Gein: The Butcher of Plainfield was kind of an interesting flick to watch.

In the Realm of the Senses is based on a true story.

Caligula, though highly stylized and put together from records, it's a pretty decent flick with tons of nudity and graphic sex.

Lord of War is also a pretty good flick about the illegal arms trade and Charles Taylor.

Midnight Express is about the drug trade.

The People vs. Larry Flynt is also one of my favorites.

Yeah, it's my favorite Cage movie. My second fave is Leaving Las Vegas and then 8MM, then Con Air. I don't really dig his family-friendly fare, though.

Heavenly Creatures is a really good movie. It's very intense in a "I know your secrets" kind of way.

When in comes to this type of movie, I prefer the historical type. My three favorites are: Defiance, Amazing Grace, and Schindler's List. I'm sure that some license has been taken with them, but the basis of the movie is correct and factual.

I don't know how really based all of these are, but they're all pretty good:

Heavenly Creatures is a great one - and interesting also that it's one of Peter Jackson's last movies before he went all Hollywood.

Grim Love was interesting - it's based on the actual case in Rohtenburg, Germany, where a man wanted to be a cannibal and advertised for victims in the paper.

Valkyrie (about the plot to assassinate Hitler)

Shadow of the Vampire - about the making of Nosferatu.

I saw one a while back based on a missing woman in NY called "ALL GOOD THINGS" It was awesome with Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst.
