Music when depressed

Contributor: Viktor Vysheslav Malkin Viktor Vysheslav Malkin
So i just got done writing an article, and it was very depressing, brought back lot of memories.

What music, or songs do you listen to when you are feeling down.

Today I listened to

"Hurt" by Johnny Cash
link

and Dustin Kensure's "I knew you before"
link

And

"Gone Away" by the Offspring
link

Also "Inner Universe"
link

Think it made me sadder though....

I searched, could not find this question, sorry if I over looked it.

I totally listen to music when I'm depressed but I listen to non depressing music. I used to listen to Incubus's album make yourself or Smile Empty Souls's debut album but they do just that...depress you even more.

I have a whole playlist of like 200 songs for uplifting my mood. The one I can think of off the top of my head is

Animals by 311.

It really depends on why I am depressed. In the past for break ups I would listen to music about people getting over break ups, ones that sang about being ok afterwards.

Sometimse I feel depressed and I'm not really sure why. I think sometimes that we need to feel sad, we need to think about things so we can work through them. In those times sometimes depressing songs are nice, and heck half the time I realize it's not so bad after listening to them. I usually have to eventually snap myself out of it with some cheerful music though.

If it's just a general feeling down then I listen to the Spice Girls..their fast tracks. I know it's kind of cheesy but it's hard to be sad while singing "Wannabe" and "Say you'll be there"!! I also listen to the Spice Girls at the gym if I am having a hard time getting going lol, I think the teenage girl in me emerges when the music plays.

Classical music - it's more neutral and can help bring you out of it at a more reasonable pace.

Anything that some would consider "emo" such as My Chemical Romance. They're amazing. Then again, singing always makes me feel better, and when I like to sing my anger out, it's by the likes of Paramore.

Haley (is that how she spells it?) really belts out the music. You can really hear it towards the end of "Brick by boring Brick".

For me it was Black Lab's "Your body above me" and Sponge's "Rotting Pinata". Everything but the Girl's "Temperamental" was really good too!

It really depends. Sometimes it's Gothic music, sometimes rock, sometimes new age....

Oh, yeah, I definitely listen to music when I'm depressed. Sometimes depressing music depresses me more and sometimes it oddly lifts me up. Modest Mouse is a great pick me up, especially "Float on."

I just want to say, I LOVE "Inner Universe" even though it's not usually one of my depressed songs.

I listen to a lot of Evanescence, Imogen Heap, and Levi Weaver.

I listen to Modest Mouse when something brings back bad memories. Takes me back to when things were Fun and carefree and I didn't have a problem in the world.

ATB, he has great techno/trance music which follows the feelings sometimes.
Three days Grace is good, particularly Never to late.

My favorite song to listen to is ATB- Can't sleep (trance mix) on you tube. Check it out, it's slow at first but listen to it all the way threw, I'm sure you will like it!

Are you me? I do the same. It has this awesome ability to balance out your being. Great to meditate to, as well.

If you want to turn the depression to anger, just listen to Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell II.

I know... I've also got a tendency to prefer covers of older songs to the actual song itself.

I might like the song but, I still gotta point out.

Do they actually make original songs? lol seems like they don't!

Never was a huge Pearl Jam fan myself.

Throughout my High School and Middle School years I was very heavily involved in choir and the vocal arts, traveling all over the world to perform. When I am sad I find myself listening to recordings of us singing, because it reminds me of happier times, and I usually get caught up singing in the songs and eventually work through whatever is getting me down.

I wrote a really hard paper at the beginning of my semester, it brought back old memories and it mad me rummage through old peotry I had written in that painful past. It was rough, but I got a freakin awesome grade!
