We want to share with folks here that we watched this movie on our cable last night and thoroughly loved it. It is a fantastic movie about Alfred Kinsey and the Kinsey Reports (Men in 1948, Women in 1953). The social and political storms that arose from his reports, especially when he released the second report on the sexual habits of women, were astounding. As much as we all complain about how sexually repressed our society is today, this movie shows how far we have come in the past 40 years. Liam Neeson did a fantastic job with the role.

It was a great movie. It spurred me to read several biographies on Kinsey and also obtain original copies of his Reports.
Also, the author T.C Boyle wrote a book called The Inner Circle which was a fictionalized account of Kinsey's researchers, their sex lives and the way Kinsey and his wife lived. Boyle does a lot of fictionalized accounts of real people, from Kellogg brothers The Road to Wellville to Frank Lloyd Wright The Women. And many others. Newfound, look the book up, you'll probably really like it.

I saw this movie a while back as well. It was good. Though I am sure both reports were controversial, it was amazing how much more controversial the report on women was. It's almost as if people didn't seem too surprised about male sexual behavior and maintained a "boys will be boys" mentality. However, nobody wanted to hear that the women in their lives could equally sexual. Talk about a double standard!

Yaoi, that was exactly it. Remember that back in the 40's and 50's we were dealing with the McCarthy era (touched on in the movie). Women were not supposed to have sexuality, they were there to "service" their husbands. The idea that women had sexual desires, and actually enjoyed it, was revolutionary to society. Further, even if some people knew it, society did not allow it to be openly discussed.

I go to the Kinsey Institute website a lot when I'm doing research. They have a museum in there in Indiana I would love to go to some day. They still do some amazing research and education there!
