Since this is a sex toy website/community, I figure some people would be interested in this upcoming film, Hysteria. The film, starring Hugh Dancy and Maggie Gyllenhaal, is a comedy about two inventor doctors trying to come up with the perfect device for inducing orgasms (the treatment for hysteria back in the day). omg, this looks AWESOME! i so want to see it! i just wish they had someone other than Maggie Gyllenhaal, i don't really like her.

I've not seen, to my knowledge, any movies with her in it, so I'm indifferent. But I wouldn't mind seeing this! It looks quite quirky! I am familiar with the process of inventing this product. Wasn't it thought up because the doctor's hand kept on getting tired?

Yes, vibrators were designed to take the burden of doctors' hands. Treating hysteria was a cash cow back in those days for doctors, because the same women would come in for treatment week after week. The vibrator got it done more efficiently and allowed the doctor to see more women.
