Has the Big Bang Theory lost its thunder?

Contributor: Woman China Woman China
I've been watching The Big Theory for a while now and have wondered if it was just me who has been thinking it's lost what's made it special? I mean to me at least, it seems they rely too much on Sheldon for comedic releif, his come backs seem predictable, and it seems as if the whole Raj-Howard bro-mance has disappeared. Not to mention Penny and Lenard are just annoying. Then there is Penny hardly ever is seen without a drink in her hand.

Is it just me who thinks The Big Bang Theory should just end? Or is this me being cynical?

Nope. Don't agree with you. TBBT is still hilarious- alive and kicking!

Sortof. TBBT seems to have lost what made it special, but I find it still watchable.

I still like it! I think the problem is the frequent breaks the show takes, it really takes me out of the "groove" so to speak when I have to wait 3 weeks for a half hour show like we have been for the past year!

Meanwhile, the reruns that come every single day are hilarious, sometimes even funnier the second or third time you watch them. You may come around to these newer episodes eventually!

I love the show. I have been pissed about the breaks in between with March Madness and everything else. JUST PLAY MY SHOW PLEASE! I have all the seasons on DVD so far and will be getting season 6 too. This is one show that I can watch over again and still enjoy.

I still watch it but I really think they need to wrap it up and end it because the quality has really gone down.

The writers and actors get tired - you can see it in the story lines and the actors lack of enthusiasm. Definitely 'jumped the shark'

Oh geez no! I hope there are plenty of seasons to come. I haven't laughed this much from a TV show since Roseanne, Everybody Loves Raymond and The King of Queens, well I take that back, I really like The Exes on TV Land.

IMO, it never had any thunder at all to begin with. But as long as it's been going on now, I wouldn't be surprised if it had lost some steam. You can only make "haha. nerds." 'funny' for so many seasons.

I never watched it much since I don't like sitcoms, but am a bit of a geek (not "geek"). I dislike the show mainly because the moment I start talking about artificial intelligence, chemistry, biology, evolution, computer science, transhumanism, or space exploration/colonizati on I get insipid things like "LOL, you sound like [Amy/Sheldon/Leonard]!"

Yeah, no. I'm trying to talk about something infinitely interesting and incredibly awesome. I am not a two-dimensional character who wants to get a monkey addicted to drugs. The reason I made such a long list of topics is to show just how many conversational landmines I risk stepping on that trigger an annoying TBBT reference rather than a substantive response.
The show is overall monotonous and uninteresting, leaning heavily on stereotypes and broad caricatures... just like any other sitcom.

I still watch it out of loyalty and because there are still a few funny moments in each episode. But I agree with you that it's lost its sparkle. The first two and a half seasons were GEMS. I think with its increasing popularity, the writers toned down the quirkiness and went for the easier jokes.

Ditto...I hate it and all the male characters...I hate seeing their faces on billboards along the highways too. Sorry...I find most sitcoms cheesy.

That's exactly what I thought!!!! I enjoyed it when I watched the very early episodes but after a while it just became predictable. I enjoyed in the first few season I was kept guessing what would be and then... well, now I am bored with it.

I also feel like they are making Sheldon more and more of a baby.

Yeah it seems that Sheldon is way too "easy" as a character now. They do just rely on him for comic relief. it's kind of a bd show now

I love it! Every once in a while, it can be formulaic, but what sitcom doesn't have ups and downs? I just saw the Bob Newhart episode, and that man still has me rolling with laughter. I really love the ensemble they've built after adding Amy and Bernadette. I feel like it opened up new bits and opportunities. I still adore this show! It channels my inner nerd.

I haven't seen this season yet as I don't have cable and just end up purchasing the season when it comes out for TBBT. But I have heard similar grumblings of how people aren't as thrilled about this past season and that they feel like the introduction of all the girl characters has made it less funny when the guys were just "Nerdy guys who couldn't get girls with the one totally out of reach hot blonde girl-next-door neighbor." Now they all have girlfriends for the most part (which I think is cute and enjoy it) but I don't know, I own all the seasons up to date and I watch them pretty frequently.

It never should have started.

It's supposed to make "being a nerd" or whatever okay but it obviously doesn't, everyone just makes Penny look like the average blonde dummy (can we please stop being sexist? no?) idk

I just hate it

It's not funny

and people that smart wouldn't act like that
