Gold and Silver

Contributor: WierdAl WierdAl
Does anyone collect Gold and or Silver coins as an investment? I was cleaning out a barn a few years back and there was a cigar box full of silver quarters. I went to cash them in a year ago. I was told what they were worth and I decided not to sell them. The value keeps going up.

You REALLY might want to sell them NOW. Uncertainty in the marketplace has caused GOLD and yes, even silver, to really rise. It is highly likely that after the next election, there will be a huge infusion of "certainty" and improvement in the overall economy and gold and silver will both plummet again, as they are "worried hedge bet" value investments.

You need to do what works best for you, but I would sell at least half. OR, I would sell them all and use half the money to buy some currently VERY cheap, blue chip stock and watch IT go way back up when the market turns.

Good luck!!! Congrats on your great find.

OH....BEFORE you sell them, make sure you don't have any SPECIAL DATES in there. Those may be worth FAR more numismatically, to collectors then just the silver value.

I have one coin. It's a 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar. It's worth approximately $43. I think that's kind of cool, but collecting anything isn't really my cup of tea anymore.

Now it can be a good time to buy gold and silver. It'll only continue to rise from this deep point. It might be close to the bottom then $2000 is up, I believe. However USD is getting stronger as EU is having a hard time this shows in metal prices falling because they are compared to USD! Good new to those who keep USD and not stocks or gold.

I don't collect the coins, but I do have a bunch of silver coins that my grandparents had. I know they are worth a few hundred dollars, but I don't want to sell them unless I absolutely need the money. I think I would have to be pretty desperate for money to go and sell them.

I have some silver. Quite a bit, in the box at the bank. One gold coin that I cannot find.

Gold went down $100.00 last week, so you may want to do it quickly.

My problem is, I don't know where to sell them so I don't get reamed. Anybody have any suggestions? I will NOT do it online. But, what kind of dealer is the best for this kind of investment and who will I get the best deal from?

We don't collect them, but a few years ago at Christmas, my boyfriend's parents decided that both of their son's families "should", so they gave us silver coins (gold was a little too far out of their budget for gift giving). So, we have them, but "we" don't collect them, lol.

None the the above. If I did it would be silver. I really don't like gold.

I voted silver but I don't collect at all. My husband does and he collected a lot of silver coins and a few gold coins until the prices went up. If you bought and sold as the prices went up you could have continuously made some money. He was really into the coin collecting and likes to have the rare coins.
