A lot of people watch this show, but I have my doubts on if I should watch it because of the topics I've heard it deals with. What are your thoughts on it?

Hmm I also wonder about this. I bought the books to read before I attempt the show but I have heard good things about both book and show : )

I think the show is awesome! What topics are you referring to?

That's what I'm interested in hearing, too. I haven't really seen anything that's objectionable.

I have never seen a episode, so unsure what topics you are referring to.

That scene where Bran spies them having sex, that is the only time you really "see" anything. All other times it is in conversation. I am kind of weirded out by incest talk myself, but I do feel that it was tastefully done in "Game of Thrones". There are many story lines that weave together in the books and in the show, that it is easy to look beyond that one story line.

I'm liking it so far

I enjoy it. I don't feel like the iffy subjects are handled badly.
I watch it with a group of friends and we do a "boob wager" about how many boobs there will be in an episode. Our rules are if you see bare breast AND a nipple, that counts as one boob. We play Price Is Right rules (of course) so closest without going over wins. Super funny when it'll be a dramatic part and someone shouts "NIPPLE!"

I really want to watch the show, but I plan on reading he books first.

Thanks everyone for your input! :] Yes, the topics I was referring to was primarily incest, but I'd also heard somethings about misogyny and race.
I think I'll give it a shot this coming week when I have time, and the books maybe after a couple of episodes

This is great!
Kudos to you and your friends

Meh. I'm not particularly weirded out by that (at least in stories set in the older eras). Rome, the TV series, had the same thing, after all.

There was an incestuous pairing in Rome? I watched all three series but I don't remember that... I do remember the brother/sister pairing in Spartacus: Vengeance though it was only alluded to, never shown.

Game of Thrones was especially brutal this evening. I've read the books, which don't shy away from violence, but for a single episode it seemed overkill. All I could think of was 1984 during the interrogation scene.

For the record, the books are MUCH MUCH more explicit about rape and incest, so if you're sensitive to those topics, they're not the series for you. The show is much more subtle. I have had a hard time with the books, myself, at times.

The Julii children, Octavia and Gaius Octavian slept together. She seduced him at the urging of Servilia in order to gain information on, I believe, Caesar.

haha, I watch it with my roommate and we always bet about when the first naked scene comes. I remember recently, there was one in which a naked scene didn't come until the very end -- we were extremely surprised.

I really like this show, I think it's absolutely great, though the show has a lot of sex (not that I'm complaining) and often not just straight but so far I have seen sex involving two women in the show and hints of two men in a relationship in the show and if that bothers you then this might not be up your ally. However disregarding that I think game of thrones is fantastic and I can't wait for next Sunday!
