I'm going back to 1994 for this one - The Shadow.

I am a huge comic fan, and have been for 20 years. I am really picky about comic movies. My
all time favorite is the Superman movie starring Christopher Reeve. He embodied Superman. This movie managed to do something too many comic movies do not- it gives a full origin story for the main character and makes the viewer feel for the hero.
My runner ups: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight (my husband is a huge Batman fan and got me more into the character).
Hellboy 1 and 2. Del Toro is one of my favorite directors. He also manages to give Hellboy's origin thoroughly and manages to make the viewers sympathetic to his characters. Plus- I love practical effects and prefer them to CG effects.
