I'm currently watching Cars 2 right now and just randomly thought - what do you guys prefer? I love both styles of animation and creativity, but Pixar always seems to catch my attention.

I feel both companies use amazing graphics, colors, etc., but I really want to hear your opinion on it.

I think Pixar consistently makes better all-around movies. They've literally only made a couple of 'bad' ones (which weren't all that bad, relatively speaking). I usually come away very pleasantly surprised with Pixar movies, despite going in thinking "meh, family/kids film". I think the writing is what really makes them so great, but their cutting-edge 3D animation is obviously quite amazing as well.

Although I can definitely appreciate many of Disney's movies (esp. of the 90's), not to mention their classic, 2D animation. I'm not sure which style I prefer, to be honest. I need to find some Disney on Blu-ray...

I love both styles of animation.

Technically they are the same company... Pixar has been owned by Disney since 2006.

Pixar was always awesome. I was afraid that Disney would ruin it when they bought it, but it hasn't been too bad so far. Disney pre-Pixar butchered classic fairy tales and perpetuated stereotypes about women. They are getting better, but they need to do more.

I love Pixar. You can never go wrong with one of there movies. Maybe tonight will be a Toy Story night. Well TAR comes first.

Pixar is owned by Disney, but they still have different animation styles and methods. Pixar developed the "Renderman" software that they use for their movies. Some of it is diffusing between the two though. Even so, what I think really sets Pixar apart is the culture of the organizatoin and they way they develop the stories and movies. There is a short movie called "The Pixar Story" which was on the special features of Wall-E. Amazing documentary that explains a lot of it. I was literally in awe of the way these people work together to design and develop their stories. I think it shows through in their final products. I like Pixar better, hands down.
