I got really into Dexter a few years ago, but was really REALLY disappointed with last season. I had high hopes for this season, but so far I'm not that thrilled. What are you thoughts?
Dexter fans: What do you think of Season 6 so far?

I will be somewhat saddened if he swaps his current ethical system for some sort of religion.

I sort of worry about the religion thing too, but it would be really stupid of them to do that. Then again, most of the plot of last season was stupid so who knows?

I think it has some serious potential, but it's gotten off to a bit of a slow start. It's nice to see Olmos though, LOVED him in BSG.

I think this season is really evolved in it's plot and thinking. It's pretty gripping the way Dexter is struggling with religion.
11/11/2011
I don't think Dexter has evolved so much as he's gotten dumber. I can deal with him struggling with certain aspects of religion, that's fine and somewhat within the scope of an evolved character. But how they've tried to make him all shocked and confuddled at how someone with religion can kill is ridiculous. He of all people would be aware and able to recognize how people throughout history have used religion as justification for doing horrible things to each other. I mean come on -_- Personally, I consider it a low blow attempt at being all dark, controversial and edgy. And let's not even pretend they're ever going to get to the part about how not everyone who doesn't believe in god or practices religion is cold and empty on the inside. I mean come on, if you're going to go there...
Plus, the script is just bad. I think they have changed their writers or something because the writing has gotten terrible. I can call the set up of lines one right after another. Weeds has held up better, though that may just be a result of my long-term crush on Mary Louis Parker...
Anyways. As tv shows go, it's alright. Certainly better than *some* things on tv these days. However, I've been MUCH more impressed with the shows on AMC than either Showtime or HBO over the past couple years. Both Mad Men and Breaking Bad are fabulous. The Walking Dead seems somewhat promising and although I havent watched any of it, Hell On Wheels looks like it could be an interesting addition as well.

Despite the things I wanted to nitpick about the season so far, I can't complain. I'm still watching, so I can't say I dislike anything about it enough to watch something else.
11/12/2011
havent started watching it yet, but I am excited to!
11/12/2011
Oh no! Am I the only one that hasn't watched it? XD I've heard good things about it, but I'm just not much of a TV gal.

I agree that Dexter being baffled by killing for religion doesn't make any sense at all. The show almost acts as though he's never even been aware of religion before now, which is pretty much impossible. The writing has been all over the place. Like, what was the deal with him killing the serial killer he essentially idolized? Wouldn't that have been a bigger plot point? And the preview for this week's episode looks like the writers just said "screw it" and decided to take teh season in a different direction (although I'll withhold judgment until after I watch it.)

I want to love the show still. Maybe I just got spoiled because I recently got into shows like The Wire and Breaking Bad which are so much more well-put-together.

Gawd I wish the Wire was still around! And Breaking Bad is definitely one of the-if not the-best dark adult dramas on TV these days. Truly a story that hadn't yet been told but needed to be, wonderful character development and acting. And good golly every season is as good as the next! (something Dexter has never been able to manage).

It hasn't gotten so bad that I'll stop watching the show. It's still a decent way to kill 45 minutes.

I'm still conflicted. Things went in a weird direction for a few episodes. Now they're back on track. Definitely better than last season, but not as good as some of the others.
