do you buy your books, read at the book store or library?

Contributor: Naughty Student Naughty Student
I usually prefer to buy my books so I don't worry about a deadline to bring the book back.

I'm a library freak though...I do this weird thing where I just crawl from row to row reading ancient books, trying to find the oldest books I can and reading the first few pages to see how much our language has changed over time. I can spend hours in the library, smelling books, touching them, and being an overall creepy person.

I know that it would be cheaper to get books at the library, however I like buying books. I like knowing they are mine at that I can re-read them any time I want. Also, Im not a very fast reader so when I get books from the library I have check them out more than once in order to finish the book. But I do love to read at any chance I can, which is often.

I buy books. I read slow, dog-ear pages, and it forces me to finish a book.

I don't read as much as I used to but I always buy mine either new or used. I like hardback books and have quite a collection.

I do use the library, but I also buy a ton of books or ebooks.

If I buy a book it has to be a cheap paperback, or used book.
I mostly get them from the library though.

There are those times when I see a book I've been looking all over for. I'd have to get it.

I usually go to the library. I will sometimes buy a book, but I have to be fairly certain it's awesome before I buy it.

Lately its just e-books for me... I also read a lot more non-fiction than I used to.

I normally buy them from the store or off sites, but there is a resale shope a few blocks away that I will get some from. Big Lots has discount bins all the time at 50 to 75% off.

All of the above. I used to buy books a LOT, but then I ran out of space and money. Now I get them from the library. If they're not at the library and/or I want to keep them and/or I have the extra cash, I buy them for Kindle. If they're not available for Kindle, I'll usually get the real thing off of betterworldbooks.com - they have great prices, free shipping, and they support awesome causes. I also visit used bookstores a lot, and though I try not to spend too much money, I sometimes buy stuff

I don't care for some of the libraries around here, so I buy books. I usually try to get them from thrift stores, used book stores, or Amazon.

We get a LOT of books from the library. If my youngest dd and I go, we probably get about 30 or 40 books between us. (But, I'm trying to limit it, because even a few days late with 40 books is a huge fine.) If my middle dd goes with us, it's even more books.

I occasionally go to a book store, but usually buy books on Amazon, because the price is better. I don't read books AT the book store. It ruins the binding and then they can't sell the books at full price. I will look at a book enough to make sure its what I want, then if I want it, either buy it and read it at home, or get the book from the library.

Libraries are the first go. I won't buy a book unless I absolutely adore it and want it on my shelves for rereading purposes.

I usually get books from the library but the more erotic books are usually bought from Chapters or an adult store or online.

Thanks for the Abebooks suggestion! I'm going to have to check that out.

I prefer to go to the library or buy at an independent used book store...but I usually buy new. I don't want to if I can help it...but I usually do.

I am right there with you! I use the library quite a bit during summer breaks. I have a rather extensive physical collection, too. I will usually buy books that I really want to read, but if it just a story I heard about or an author that someone suggested I try, I will get it from the library.

I didn't think I would like e-books since I am such a bibliophile, but I have actually jumped in whole heartedly I <3 my nookcolor (and my nook I had before this one). I now only buy books that are in a series that i have been collecting in physical form. My e-books are always available and I can take 20 or 30 books on vacation in case I can't decide ahead of time which ones I want to read (and in fact I can take thousands and buy some while I am out there. Plus you can read any e-book Barnes & Noble sells on it in the store for an hour a day for free!!

I buy my books or borrow them from the library. I'm never in the bookstore long enough to read a whole book. When I go in, I usually know exactly what I'm looking for and I'm in a hurry, so I grab it and check out. I do my loitering on Amazon. Mmmmm, Amazon...

I absolutely LOVE books. I'm even studying to be a librarian (of the sexy variety, naturally ) so that I can get paid to be around books all day.

I use the public library a lot, both out of economic necessity and a desire to support the institution. I love browsing through the books and finding old, random titles that otherwise would never come to my attention. (Side note: a good reference librarian can help you find books that you might like, using better resources than Amazon's "customers also bought/viewed" feature. Don't be shy!)

But I also really enjoy having a home library. As an English major, I collected a lot of books, and my rule now (since I live in a state with a great public library system) is that I'll buy books that are classics or I think I'll read again. I usually prefer pre-loved books, and I stumbled on a gold mine last year: A local primary school was holding a book sale, with books donated by parents and teachers. Paperbacks went for 50 cents, hardcovers for 1 dollar. I purchased several GOOD books for a total of 6 dollars. I still get giddy thinking about it.

If I buy a new book, it's usually on Amazon (again, economic necessity--you usually can't beat the prices), but I love browsing the bookstore. Sometimes I use it as a reward, as in "If I go to the gym every day this week, I can go to the bookstore and buy myself a treat on Friday afternoon!" Yeah, I'm cool.

I used to buy books at the bookstore whenever I got paid. That was how I treated and pampered myself. I found a good library and now I use it. It saves me money that I use to pamper myself with toys. I still love browsing and loitering in bookstores.

Me too.
I love smelling books and feeling the pages. I love everything about them, which is why I have no interest in electronic readers.

Wow! You have just really intrigued me. I have this video in my head of you literally crawling across the library floor and fondling the books. I hope you won't be offended if I say that it arouses me.

And I thought I was weird for standing in front of my bookshelves, running my fingers over my books and occasionally pulling a favorite out to hug it.

I live outside of the city limits, so I would have to pay to use the nearest library. Boo! Most of the time, it doesn't matter since I prefer to own my books anyway. Because I don't have a lot of money, I usually buy used books. I'll buy from the local Half Price bookstores, but lately I tend to buy more frequently from Abebooks.com Link or the used books on Amazon.com.

I buy most of my books, either from stores, online stores or secondhand. If I don't buy them, then I borrow from the library or someone else.

I get them at the library if I can. If they're not available there, I try to find a used copy at the second-hand bookstore or a thrift store, or buy a used copy online.

I normally like to sample the book at the bookstore or the library, and if I'm really into it I'll buy it ^^ Being a college student, books are my best friend at the moment lol.

I order my books online. If I see one in the book store, I'll look it up on the internet to see if I'll like it, and if the in-store price beats what I can get on amazon, then I'll get it in store.
