I'm one of those people who always tries to read the book before seeing the movie. What do you prefer?

Sometimes I don't realize that there was a book made first until after I've already seen the movie. Usually if it has interested me, I'll watch the movie the book was made from, or read the book after watching the movie.

For me, I think it depends. Typically, I prefer to read the book first, because most movies have a tendency to leave things out or change things for the worst. If it's a genre I don't normally read and the movie isn't all that great, I probably won't bother picking up the book.

I read the book first. I can't stand when I'm reading a book and I already know which actors are in the movie....as I like to have my own mental picture of the characters, not the ones Hollywood dictates.

sorry i skip the book and just see the movie. save time for other books that don't get picked up for filming.

I like to read the book first, sometimes I'm watching a movie and don't realize it was a book until after :p

It depends on whether I've heard about the book. I tend to prefer reading the book before when possible

I usually read the book first.

I don't feel compelled to read the book first. If it's reputedly a great book, I will probably read it. Beach reads made into movies are better as movies, though.

It depends. Usually I don't read a book just because a movie is coming out. I did that for hunger games and a few other movies but that’s because my sister read the books and said I had to read them before the movie came out.
Generally I like the books better than the movies, so I like to read the books after I’ve seen the movie, otherwise I tend to greatly dislike the movie and pick it apart. And I’ll only read the book after the movie if I liked the movie, or have heard the book is better; as long as there is something interesting there.
Most times though I've read a book THEN heard it was being made into a movie. If I liked the book, I usually want to see the movies for curiosity’s sake. See if they did it justice.
So yea, that pretty complicated for me...

I usually read the book before the movie and sometimes I skip the movie if it doesn't look as good as the book was.
01/20/2013
It really depends.

The book is always better but most of the time its fun to see how they twisted the story in the movie.

I sometimes watch a movie if I've read the book it's made after, as long as I liked the books. However I very rarely read a book after a movie because it seems pointless to me. I read to go on the adventure and if I already know how it's going to end then I kind of see it as pointless, unless I really really loved the movie.

It really varies. I always think the book is better, but sometimes I don't realize there's a book until after I've watched the movie.

read before
01/22/2013
Usually read before, but sometimes the other way around.
01/23/2013
Depends.
Usually I at least try reading the book first, but sometimes it's too boring or difficult to understand. Then I do the movie, then try re-reading the book. Either way I'll probably do the book

it totally depends on how big the book is before the movie, and whether or not I want to see the movie. lol.
