Anyone watch Storage Wars on A&E?

Contributor: CS2012 CS2012
I was staying with my parents two months since my Mom was taking care of me while I was recovering from weight loss surgery. My step-dad turned on A&E to watch one of his favorite shows Storage Wars. I was actually surprised to learned I liked it. I watched it just about every night I was there. Since my husband & I choose to not pay for cable.

Does anyone else like Storage Wars?

I used to buy storage lockers but I haven't been out there since my accident. Prices have gone considerably up since the shows started both Storage Wars and Auction Hunters. I do like watching the shows though. I crack up at all the great stuff they get because it's not overly accurate. Yes, you can find some amazing stuff but more often then not you don't find that "WOW" factor lol.

I do like the show, but wonder how many lockers they actually go through before they find the ones that have the goods.

I don't watch it on a regular basis, but if I'm flipping channels and see that it's on I'll watch it. I kind of enjoy it - you get to see some really unique items!

I like the characters, the people (I have a crush on Barry, yeah I like rich older men )

I do something think "What about the people who lost their stuff?" These auctions happen because someone didn't pay their monthly fee on the locker. I feel kind of bad for them, especially in this economy. Of course, if they couldn't pay, they may have wanted to get their stuff out of the locker, but sometimes there are valuable things in there and if people get too far behind they can't access their lockers until they pay the fee.

I love when they open a locker and all the men say, "This one has porn, guaranteed." Then whoever wins the locker opens a Rubbermaid container full of old XXX videotapes. LOL!

I wonder how they know?

I've never seen it, but from reading the previous thoughts, I would be sad for those that lost their valuables because they couldn't pay for the locker fees.

Almost every single one I've ever bought has some form of porn or sex toys in it. It would only be impressive if they said it didn't and were right lol

After watching that show, we actually went to a local storage place having a blind auction on unpaid bins. I should have thought this through...if someone cannot afford to pay their storage, odds are they don't have a lot of great stuff IN storage.

When push came to shove...$150 later, I had to drag and toss an old, flea bitten mattresses and a bunch of beat up pots and pans that should have been in a dumpster, not in storage, to begin with.

Glad it works for them on that show....sure didn't do much for me!!!

I always wonder WHO these people are, who could not pay their $50 fee for the month, but leave hundreds of thousands in artwork or tools in a storage shed???? Make no sense. Maybe someone killed in the war, or someone simply dies and leaves it behind??? I really don't get it. Maybe some are in jail and thus CANNOT go empty their stuff???

I've had ones where the owners have died as well as gone to jail but more often then not they simply have had their stuff in storage so long they don't remember what was in it or think they'll come up with the money before it goes to auction. Others still have moved or deployed without making arrangements to cover the costs. Gotta remember though it isn't just one payment they've missed. They have to miss 3 months before it goes up for auction around here. Most lockers tend to have a lot of personal papers, photos, there whole lives can be found in them too so sometimes it's really sad to go through their belongings.

My mom and I want to do that. But we don't have the thousands of dollars that it takes.

I've watched the show a few times. What I like about the show is the fact that the people that they are going to for the value are people that are more often then not buying the stuff. It's kinda annoying to watch other shows like "American Pickers" because for the most part you are only being told what it is valued at. Half the time its like "I wouldn't pay that much for that........"

good show, but its making the price of lockers go way too high. i set up at fleamarkets and could get lockers for less then 100 and make alittle money. now over 100 people show up and locker go from 200-1000 around here noway you can even get your money back at that price. its not like it is on tv, you buy a locker you pay for the locker and have to put down a deposit if the lockers not cleaned out in 24 hours you dont get your deposit back. sometimes even at 100$ or less your just paying them to clean the locker. i have bought around 30 lockers over the years most of them just ok, 4-5 real good only one great locker it had a box of old eyeglasses some real gold.

Adding the first 'other', I enjoy it but I feel sort of bad for the people that get their storage units sold that way. It happened to us and sometimes the owners of the units are just ordinary people that had no place for their treasured possessions when they had to move and eventually didn't have the money to keep up with the payments on the unit for whatever reason (possibly even medical bills or such).
