I'm reading the first one and I'm not a fan, the main character is annoying and the author continues to imply that there is something wrong with the lifestyle and the only reason Grey is into it is because he is damaged. The smut is mediocre and her writing is very repetitive (if the main character says "oh my" one more time I might just scream) but I will continue to read it just to better understand the hype about it.

Since you don't like it so far, why do you think finishing the series will make the hype more understandable?

Nope. it blows, and not in the good way. Her depiction of a D/s relationship makes me facepalm, repeatedly.

I can definitely understand your opinion about it. Some of it is annoying.

I've read the first one and will probably read the other two just to find out more about Grey's background.

In conclusion, I deem this series far, far worse than its source material. Even beyond the terrible representation of BDSM, it encourages naive people to enter into relationships they do not understand and are not prepared for, simply because a man is powerful and pretty. It excuses, no, ENCOURAGES the use of emotional, financial, verbal, and physical manipulation and abuse at all levels of a relationship.

I have no interest. I read some of the reviews about it. It doesn't seem like something I would read. I don't like to read books for the most part anyhow.
I only read the reviews on it to see what they were about. An hoped to understand the hype, but I just don't.

I don't really know, but everyone is talking about it and I don't want to talk it down in discussions unless I have actually read it, plus I hate not finishing a book or series I have started lol.

I read the first one and didn't like it at all, so I won't bother with the rest. I agree with Bex that the writing is repetitive - the constant "inner goddess" thing got on my nerves. It was also extremely obvious while reading that the book was based on the Twilight series, which I found distracting and annoying.

I read a part of "Grey" in my mother's bathroom and found it overrated. The characters are awful, the narrative blah...

Nope.

Nope. I've written better BDSM eroica myself this week.

Hmm, there was another post about this already where I explicit posted my utter disgust and hatred with the series LOL, but I'll just reiterate:
1. It's poorly written with such INGENIOUS phrases as "I FLUSHED" and "HOLY CRAP" every other freaking sentence!
2. It makes BDSM practitioners out to be abused psychopaths.
3. The leading lady Anastasia is a damn moron who contradicts herself every five seconds while coming across as batshit insane, thanks to her constant talking to her Inner Goddess and Self conscious.
4. It's ending just pissed me the Hell off, but I won't say just because I don't want to ruin it for others.
5. I wasted a small portion of my LIFE reading that garbage that I'll never get back...I want to throw tomatoes at E.L. James' Twilight, fanfic-loving FACE!
Hopefully, the angry emoticons demonstrate my strong dislike of these works of ridiculous fiction.

I really haven't been getting into these new books that get a lot of hype this past year or two. The vampires really weren't for me and neither have these new "big hype" books. I just don't think it's something I could truly appreciate, not after hearing many times that the writing is very amatuer. Usually I still appreciate it, but in this case, I simply can't follow.

I just don't think I could get into it from the writings I've seen posted online. Plus the whole Twilight thing.

The books have been recommended to me, but I've seen more bad than good about them. I'll probably check the first out of the library just to see what it's really like.

I was the same exact way! After reading "oh my" SO many times, it really really got on my nerves, but I like to be "in the know" so I read the whole series. Not impressed.

yes i've read it and wrote reviews on the 3
06/23/2012
I may sometime in the future, but right now, I have more than enough reading material, and from what I hear...it's not so great.
06/23/2012
I'm thinking about reading them. But not sure yet.
06/26/2012
I want to read them I just need to find time!
06/26/2012
I don't know I have thought about it. I have a huge pile of books i still need to read.

I've somehow got sucked into them, but they are the worst written books I've ever read. The story line is good, but ultra-unbelievable.

Unless I get them as a gift, hell no I would not buy them for myself. I'd much rather spend my points on a flogger or a really nice pair of leather wrist restraints because I am damaged. (snarky)
06/28/2012
I've read the online parodies, that's enough for me :p
06/28/2012
i am totally reading it now
