Hey everybody, I’m terribly excited to give you the low-down on the family I adopted, although I wish I could give you more. For security reasons and such, the program I’m working with only gave me the names of the children I’m shopping for and what they need. So while I don’t know what their backstory is, I do know that we are giving them something they wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.
I chose to work with the General Assistance office in one of my local towns. Every year they run an Adopt-A-Family program that helps out local families that don’t quite make enough to cover things they do definitely need, but make too much to qualify for most funded assistance.
The family that I adopted consists of 3 total members, two of them being a 4 year old boy and an 8 year old girl. I wasn’t given any information on the parent involved, but in addition to providing the things they know they need like socks, underwear, and pajamas and a few things they want like a puzzle or a craft set, I will also be donating gift cards to grocery stores, that way the family can get groceries as well. It broke my heart to see such simple things we normally take for granted on this list, like the socks and underwear.
I plan to make the most of the money I’m given so that I can help give this family a Christmas they didn’t think they could have. Thank you Eden, for this amazing opportunity to give back to my own community!
