Hello everyone! I am excited to share with you about the Christmas family I adopted! While I don’t have any heart wrenching stories about this family because they are in a shelter and were “assigned” to me, for their own safety; I can tell you that they really need the help and will appreciate anything that we can do for them.
I chose to go through the Bay Area Women’s Center to adopt a family. This is a shelter for women and children escaping abusive relationships. It doubles as a counseling and resource center, and they are very helpful. They help women recover from their bad relationships and get back on their feet again. They have programs such as rental assistance, house placement, legal aid and advocacy, and many other wonderful resources. They welcome all women with open arms, and they even have support groups. I have used, and continue to use, services there. I am a regular member of the Domestic Violence support group for women and have had help from them with rent and getting things that I need such as oil changes, household supplies, and clothes. I even got adopted for Christmas last year when I was pregnant.
I am happy to be able to give back to the Women’s Shelter for all they have done for me. I have tried to volunteer there numerous times, but I cannot volunteer and continue to go to my groups. I donate things that I no longer need to them and do anything I can to help. So when Eden gave me this fantastic opportunity I was more than delighted to take on the task of adopting someone.
The family I have adopted on behalf of the community is a single mom, named Beth, with two children. She has a 4 year old boy named Joshua, and a 2 year old girl named Marissa. Due to confidentiality reasons I did not get a back story, just their wish list and what they need: clothes, toys, household items such as sheets, towels and robes. I am really excited because I love to go shopping, and I love to help others.
I plan on making the most out of the money I will be given. I am a good bargain hunter and I will be sharing my adventure with you all here on Eden. Thank you so very much for all you have done, including this amazing opportunity to give back. If it was not for Eden, one less family would be going without this year for Christmas.
