I'm a little frustrated for one particular review, the Sweet Cheeks. link I thought I really drove that baby home and included all the information I possibly could but it's been down rated 5 times as "not useful at all". I've noticed this more and more, my reviews are just being rated "not useful at all" left and right and I'm wondering- am I being too personal in my reviews? Am I not including enough factual information? I'm trying, I've been here for over a year and I feel like I've progressed in my ability to write informative reviews but the Sweet Cheeks ratings are just making me doubt myself. I'm asking the community as a whole, do you see anything in this review or not see anything in this review that makes it absolute garbage? I care what the community thinks and all these low votes make me really question the quality of my reviews.

I really think you may have a "hater" that is low balling your reviews on purpose. That particular review is a great example, because of the rude comment that was left on it..........

Please do not take this to heart, I have seen many reviews with the same votes that were truly good reviews......

I second Betty's theory...I had a feeling this was happening but hadn't noticed real evidence of it. I would not put it past some people to rate other contributor's reviews low as a way to boost themselves rank-wise. Similarly, the same type of people rate their own reviews as 'Extremely Useful'. Is it jealousy, insecurity, insanity? I don't know. But it is completely unethical and harmful to our community. For the reviews to have integrity, they should be rated honestly. I'm sorry, Sleeping Dreamer, that someone has targeted you to misplace their aggression. Your reviews are great.

I want to add my voice in agreement here: your reviews are wonderful. They're informative and fun to read. Don't let this get you down.

Thank you for the ego boost. I was feeling so down, wondering what went wrong with that review- Victoria, is there anyway that we can implement something for when people vote "not useful at all"- perhaps make it mandatory to enter a comment as to why the review wasn't useful? It'll really help us reviewers know what particular content should be changed or added so we can improve our reviews... and it will also help with reviews getting slammed by click spammers.

I can mention it to our Project Manager, but there are drawbacks with that - such as people who won't vote low because they want to remain anonymous when being critical...so we'll see. It's not my call but I will let Neuron Geek know

I'm going to second everybody else here and say that I find your reviews very useful. I've noticed a few other great reviews that have "not useful at all" votes, and I find that absolutely ridiculous. I've ranked just ONE review "not useful at all" and that was only because I could hardly understand it with all of the grammar and spelling mistakes, not to mention the content. It's sad to see that some people aren't rating based on the review itself, but some selfish motive.
Don't let it get to you!

I find this so incredible to believe. I know people do it, but I could never think of it. Sure, I want to be high ranked but I'd rather do it legitimately than by black balling someone else. =/

I think the review is informative, specific and extremely useful. It is a very good review Sleeping Dreamer and do not let this shake your confidence at all when it comes to your skills as a reviewer.

Is ranking even zero-sum? I might be totally misunderstanding the ranking calculation, but it doesn't seem to me like there's a finite number of "rank points" that have to get distributed among all the reviewers. So lowering someone else's rank wouldn't necessarily raise yours, right? It'll only make you look better *relatively*. That's mean AND stupid.

As In the Pink says as long as rank is competitive compared to others it is highly likely that there will always be people that give low ranks. The anonymous ranking is a necessary part of the ranking system even happening. It's just a negative side effect.
I think that this aspect of rank should be based on the overall ranking of all reviews. That way one review can't throw it off. It takes a lot of work and time for any mean spirited person to go through many reviews and negatively click on them.
12/29/2008
Sleeping Dreamer your reviews are really some of the very best. They are informative and I cannot imagine why anyone would make "not useful at all" on any of them.
The ranking system is almost a necessary evil. We do need to know when our reviews could be better. It seems those who have been more outspoken about the overall quality level of the review program have received lower "peer" votes lately.
I think this is childish and silly. If someone isn't happy with a particular reviewer or other people on this site, that person is more than welcome to leave - rather than attempt to pull down the rank of others.

Sleeping Dreamer- I actually scored that review extremely useful the first time I read it. I feel your reviews are awesome. I love them and please don't be discouraged by people that are probably not worth your time of day!!
12/29/2008
Aw thanks everyone. Usually I'm not so sensitive but it just irked me beyond belief. Trust me, I do a /headdesk every time I feel like a review isn't as good as it could be but seeing those low ratings really made me doubt myself. I appreciate the pick-me-ups, you guys are great.
12/30/2008
I agree, it's a great review Sleeping Dreamer! Someone just wants to be pissy.... There's alot of that going around as far as I've seen but, you take the cake! You got five! WoooHooo! It's kinda wierd though how someone will put that much effort into trying to down someone else. Too bad something can't be done about it...... *hugs*
12/30/2008
Why the Hell do people do stuff like that? They're like the kids who want higher GPAs not for a practical purpose, but so they can feel good about themselves. Rank is just a number; it has nothing to do with the quality of your reviews, and this proves it. If you're ranking someone low just so your own numbers can go up, then you're just a lazy asshole who doesn't want to do his part.
12/30/2008
You're an awesome reviewer! I noticed once I started to rise in the ranks that pretty much all my reviews picked up a "Not Useful At All" rating or two, right around the same time. It's amazing how petty people can be.
12/30/2008
Your reviews are always great and well worth reading. I'm sorry some one is low balling you like that. Hopefully whoever it is will stop doing it.
12/30/2008
It is important as a community to rise above these small things and focus on larger goals. There will always be bumps in the road but the solidarity you show here in this thread is proof that we are made stronger by standing together. Lets rise above pettiness and move onward.

I haven't yet to read an actual review on this site that was "not useful at all". Every review introduces a different opinion/POV. And I've read reviews that didn't say more than another review of the product, but that doesn't make it a bad review. It just means that everyone had a similar experience with the item, which says a lot by itself.
What's said is that it's possibly someone who doesn't like Sex Toys/A Particular Type of Toy, and just randomly found your link. All I can say is that Karma isn't something to mess with.
