Do YOU vote?

Contributor: Bulma Bulma
Scary trend I've seen lately...NO ONE VOTES FOR REVIEWS ANYMORE! Seriously people, why aren't you all voting on reviews? I see people leaving comments, but not voting...care to tell why? Is it because voting doesn't do anything for your rank? or because it helps (or hurts) the other person's rank? I've been seeing this across the board lately, and it has gotten much worse as of late. A couple months ago there would usually be close to the same number of votes as comments, now the scales have tipped and many reviews I'm reading have 3-5 comments but only 1 or 2 votes.

I vote even when I don't comment, because I feel it is important. I would ask that everyone rate the "usefulness" of a review when they read it. I know I am getting mixed messages on my reviews. Comments will be positive, but I'm receiving one or two poor votes on my reviews. That wasn't a big deal in the past when I had more votes, but when I only have 3 votes and 2 of them are negative it drags my review down. I'm sure I'm not the only one this is happening to...

Again, I ask that when you read a review, please take the two seconds required to vote on the usefulness...and be honest about it, by that I mean rank the actual "usefulness" of the review, not the "hotness" or the "awesomeness" and vote on the review, not the toy the review is about...there is a separate place to rate the toy.

Thanks all for the time I've taken from you, and please consider voting when you next read a review.

I always TRY to remember, but often, after commenting, I plain forget. Probably lack of sleep. I'll try to be more diligent in the future!

I should have said this before, but as I look at every new review on a daily basis, I don't always read them all and usually only comment if it has not been commented on yet or if it is a product that really interests me. That being said, since I do look at every review, I will try and be more consistent about voting on the reviews if you'll promise quite smacking my knuckles with your ruler Mother Bulma. By the way, is this considered a campaign since you are asking for votes?

Not a campaign per say, just wondering why so few people vote on reviews considering it only takes a couple seconds. I am NOT requesting people to vote on my reviews, just asking everyone to vote on the reviews that they do read.

I do believe that you have said that before with regards to commenting, and I truly appreciate that you are willing to vote more often. I promise to not hit your knuckles with my ruler. I prefer asses anyways

" I prefer asses anyways"

Is that a threat or a promise? Maybe I won't vote after all! ;P

I usually check the "sex toy reviews" page once a day and vote on everything. I actually have a harder time leaving comments!

I check all the new reviews but many times don't vote because if the item is not of interest to me due to material or use voting "not useful" would be unfair.
I have noticed too many, "not useful" votes on specialty items such as BDSM, strap on and yes, even anal toys. Perhaps I'm wrong here but I am assuming that those not interested in certain types of play see reviews of those items as "not useful".

It is a bit comforting to see you've noticed a drop in votes, Bulma. My votes dropped significantly since I fist joined, four months ago. It dropped at about the same time I started writing description based reviews, for the Description Project. I figured since those reviews were so informational, it was just an incredibly dry read.

I still kinda feel that way, but at least now I know that it's possible that I'm not simply writing crap reviews. Hey! It might just be that no one's voting! ... or reading! ...it's not *just* that they didn't like it!

-_- I hesitated commenting, because I thought it'd sound like a gross cry for attention. I don't mind getting treated my just desserts, I just wanted to say it's comforting knowing that it may be a site wide phenomena.

Maybe with the economy down people just don't feel like buying sex toys? Maybe they don't even feel like window shopping... because let's face it, it can be depressing when you don't have the money to buy what you want!

I try to vote but not always. I usually vote when I'm considering that product to buy. If at that point in time I'm not a customer when I read the reviews then sometimes I feel like I don't have the right to vote on them. (Sorry if most of this isn't coherent, I just spent 8 hours in the kitchen..) When reviewers rate other reviewers when we're not currently shopping on the site is it fair? There's always been the unfair/fair factor when voting, a few months ago we were encouraged to rate our own reviews but now it's a big no-no. To get the most out of the ranking system should we hold off on our prejudices and praises for bad and brilliant reviews?

I do think it is site wide, as I've noticed this on most of the reviews I've been reading and voting on. I seem to often find myself to be the second voter most times.

Well, nothing was ever said (by staff) to allude that is was unethical to vote on other people's reviews. I do believe someone (seems like it was you, but I'm not 100% sure on that sorry) asked that question and it went unanswered by staff. I consider myself a shopper all the time, whether I am looking for a specific product to buy during that trip to the site, or if I'm just reading reviews. Often times I add products to my wish list from reading reviews then purchase them later, so I feel even when I'm just reading reviews, I am still shopping.

I am worried that many "shoppers only" don't care about voting on reviews and just don't do it unless they have very strong feelings about the product. I feel many of the reviews will go without any ratings at all if contributors do not vote on them.

I just spent 15 minutes digging for those old posts that contained the info about the unethical voting stuff...all I have to say is I'd really like to see the "Search" for the forums improved. I wasn't able to find the thread sadly. Oh well. I doubt I'll dig anymore...think I broke my shovel anyways.

Please do vote on every review that you read. Base your vote on the usefulness of the review. You are rating the review itself - so no need to feel unethical about voting if you don't intend to buy that product or aren't shopping at the moment. I believe that most of our votes come from the community, not the occasional shopper. We help people to become better reviewers by voting and commenting; subsequently, we help those shoppers too - especially when chiming in with info that the reviewer should have mentioned. I encourage everyone to vote or make comments on anything that you read - we love feedback!

I tend to vote when I comment and if I only do one, it's vote. I think the lack of activity is not limited to votes. Many people have left the site recently and overall activity has plummeted. I have noticed fewer comments, too.

I now vote on every single review I read, and I read the new reviews almost daily. I read the reviews to improve on my own writing skills as well as to see if I would be interested in products.

I think it's very important the reviewers rate their peers so that us newbies know how we are doing!
