I'm back! With a story of my back...

So sorry I have been gone so long! What a busy couple of weeks it has been!
My busy story starts with the 3rd. My second sons' 6th birthday. Also, the day my best friend had her breast reduction surgery. That day was a mess. I had to bounce back and forth between making my baby's birthday awesome and helping my friend's husband get her home and comfortable. The day ended up going well with all the visitors and cake and 7 kids at my house. Success!

Next day, 4th of July I had to take my friend to her post-op appointment. She was very dehydrated and in more pain than necessary bc of it. I stayed with her at the clinic while she got 3 bags of fluids. She ended up staying here at my house all day so I could keep an eye on her. We had 10 adults and 7 kids (that includes 2 babies) here to watch the fireworks. Another busy and exhausting day.

Saturday, the 5th. Everything was going great, my parents and sisters had been staying with us and we're packing up to go home. My mother was being super helpful and gave the baby a bath for me. She forgot to brush the baby's hair so I reached for the brush and off goes baby! She was playing and being goofy like usual, and I chased after her playfully, as usual. I picked her up and mid swing, bam! My back jams up and I can barely move!

I immediately put the baby down and started crying. Initially I cried because it's been 3 whole years since my last steroid injection. 3 whole years since I've had back pain like this. I was pissed. I was so pissed. My husband then came to help me sit down on the couch. That's when I started crying bc of the pain. I could barely move my legs. It was terrifying and disappointing.

To sum up a super long, almost 9 year story...I fell down the stairs at 7 months pregnant with kid #1 and broke my tailbone. I went through heavy meds, physical therapy, more meds, more therapy, 3 steroid shots and 2 more pregnancies with this pain. I was diagnosed in 2008 with spondylosis, degenerative disc disease, and a bulging disc between L4-L5 and a completely broken coccyx. I don't think I would even wish this pain on my worst enemy.

I've gotten better over the past week. The pain is still there and hurts most when laying on my back or bending over. I've already seen the doctor and am scheduled for an mri on Tuesday. I have a strong feeling I've herniated the disc that used to be bulging. I hope the worst case scenario is another steroid shot. What terrifies me is that when I fell and broke my tailbone, I jumpstarted all these back issues that were already bound to my fate due to genes. I'm 27. The need for surgery is drawing closer. I just have to pray it's not now.

For all who were curious...I've been spending the past 7 days pushing through this pain and taking care of my kids without much medication. All I can really have is flexiril and aleve. Anything more than that and I can't function to take care of the kids.

I miss all of you!!! I feel you all deserved a reason for why I have been missing. I'm going to start getting caught up tomorrow. Thank you guys for the well wishes on my wall. it means more than you know!

eek! that sounds terrible!!!! I've been dealing with a lower back injury from a semi-recent bad deadlift, but nothing close to what you must be feeling. Wishing you a speedy recovery. (do all narcodics in all doses cause problems? Wonder if naproxen (aleve) plus low dose hydro would work and not leave you feeling too woozy. Hydrocodone barely phases me. it's oxy that turns me to a zombie)

I hope you do get better, though it will take some time. I torn both of my back muscles a while back. The pain was such I could barely move. It took me 5 mins just to get out of the car. Being self employed in a food service business, I could not take any time off. I lived with the pain for 6 years. I didn't like taking meds and used ice and heat.

Wishing you a speeding recovery !

Thank you for the well wishes SSaF. All of this back issue stuff is not fun at all. I do seem to be rather sensitive to hydro. It works wonders but with my hubs working 14 hour days during summer break there is no option for me to take it and be able to sleep it off. I have been taking the aleve and flexiril together which is working enough to take the edge off the pain. I had to specifically tell me doc to not give me anything more than those 2 meds since I have to be up and on my toes with the 3 kids. And yes...oxy is no joke lol.

Thank you OHaW. Mri is tuesday...and I'm confident I'll be sent to the pain specialist for another steroid shot in my back. It puts me out for a day or two and usually on day 3 I wake up feeling amazing. The last shot I had lasted 3 years. Hope I can get the shot done before our planned vacation!

Oh no! I'm so sorry you're going through all of this. It's especially hard to not feel your best and have little ones who depend on you. I hope you feel awesome once you get that shot and it gets settled in.

Thank you CTMY. I must say, as hard as it is with the kids, they keep me going. I have no time for dealing with pain! I probably don't rest enough but at least I'm too busy to think about it.

The hardest part now is waiting on the radiologist's report. It's torture.
