S.A.G.E. test?

Contributor: Voir Voir
Has anyone taken the S.A.G.E. test? I think it's available online, it asks a series of weird questions and uses the answers to judge... masculine or feminine brain functions? Idk it has a pretty large scale. I found it while browsing for Transgender information...

This was my result:

Your Raw Score is: -425, which indicates that overall you are Androgynous
Your appearance is Androgynous
Your brain processes are mostly that of a Male person.
You appear to socialize in a masculine manner.
You believe you have major conflicts about your gender identity.
You indicated your were born Female.
ANALYSIS:
Female to Male Transsexual, either post-operative or in transition
NOTES:
• Your answers indicate you have altered your physical appearance to look like the opposite sex.
• Your Answers indicate your psychological state has likely prevailed since you were quite young.

The only thing is I'm not in-transition or post heh I'm more at the limbo state of "yeah I want this but a lot of things it involve are sketchy to me and so is the idea of talking to anyone about it especially family"...

Thoughts on this "test" ? I thought some of the questions were completely irrelevant but I suppose that is where the biggest tell could be yeah? Ask non-obvious questions and deduce from a generalized average about where a person stands...

I tried to accomplish the test but stopped somewhere in the thirties. I doubt that it was designed by experts or scholars, if it was it wouldn't use phrases that are so obviously gendered nor ask questions that are so obviously gendered. Why not? Because it provides people with an opportunity to answer dishonestly just to procure the results they hope for.

I feel that quizzes like this are absurdly irrelevant. I would LOVE to see a quiz created by professionals, but I really hope this wasn't because it's quite unprofessionally constructed.

I'm genderqueer, just for info sake. Most of my thoughts during the answering of the thirty some questions I did get through involved eye-rolling. "Yea, I love doing house work it's real "MAN'S WORK""?! Are you KIDDING me? My cisgendered mother loves handywork. Come to think of it, I'm quite certain she would have gotten a "female to male transitioning" result as well. Lol, maybe I should let her know who she is.

((Note, if you identify as trans or genderqueer, you probably don't need a quiz to inform you. Limbo is a good place to be , I've never left))

Haha yeah... I tend to have an inability to avoid things like this because they are so tempting to take even if they are bullshit x_x

I doubt any one questionnaire could give real results anyway.

But I wouldn't discount a third person inspection; otherwise there wouldn't be individuals who go into therapy only to find a different answer to whatever they might've thought they were feeling.
Our cognitive processes are biased based on personal feeling etc. What we conceive to be a problem or occurring within ourselves could be something else.

Some of the questions are really gender oriented I agree(looking back through it now)... but that doesn't stop people from thinking of them in such a manner.
But yeah the GID one is not made by professionals, the actual SAGE test is to measure mild cognitive impairment and dementia and there's information on it at Ohio State's website... XD
I just took this a while ago because I googled "Gender Identity Disorder" to see if there was more in-depth information about it or available case studies and I ran across that as a link from another website so clicked and took it...

andnowifeellikeanidiot 8'D for even wasting my time with the stupid thing. OHwell live and learn.

You hit it on the head with "tempting to take even if they are bullshit". I've taken too many excruciatingly long bullshit quizzes in my life to compel me to complete that one in specific, but to this day if I find one intriguing enough, I'll likely sit through the duration of it. (Often to find that it provides the answer I wasn't looking for and then I become upset about it's pure bullshitness).

We are human and easily amused!

Professional here! I'm an academic, and I do work on gender, identity, and narratives.

"if it was it wouldn't use phrases that are so obviously gendered nor ask questions that are so obviously gendered. Why not? Because it provides people with an opportunity to answer dishonestly just to procure the results they hope for."

Not quite, in my opinion. If someone is going to "answer dishonestly" because they desire a certain result, that certainly says something about their gender identity, doesn't it?

The biggest problem, I think, is that this test purports to TELL YOU what your gender identity is. A responsible researcher would absolutely not claim that we can tell anyone how they identify. That shit is subjective, all the way.

In my work, for example, I just ask people how they identify. Androgynous? Masculine? Feminine? Transmasculine/fem? Queer? Fluid? Etc, etc. If I want to know the specifics if that identification (like, for example, whether they identify with and enjoy traditionally masculine work, like fixing things around the house, or traditionally feminine work, like tending to the home), I'll start with asking them to identify themselves, and then I'll ask them which work they prefer. Critically, their answer would NOT undercut their self-identification (if someone identifies as masculine but says they like to tend to the home, I wouldn't interpret that to mean that they're more feminine than they think).

So, long story short, you're probably not going to see a test like this from a professional, unless they're a shitty professional.

That said, it's an amusing quiz if you think of it as equivalent to those "what meme are you?" quizzes, or whatever. It took me I was androgynous. Shocker.

I have not taken this test but now I am curious.

I remember running across it and taking it for the lulz a long time ago.

Your Raw Score is: -395, which indicates that overall you are Androgynous/ Your appearance is Androgynous. Your brain processes are mostly that of a Androgynous person. You appear to socialize in a masculine manner. You believe you have major conflicts about your gender identity. ANALYSIS:Female to Male Transsexual, who is a serious candidate for Gender Reassignment Surgery

I found many of the questions hard to answer because I didn't remotely fit ANY of the choices presented. For instance, the whole "someone starts crying" thing - it makes me very uncomfortable and I don't naturally want to hug them or anything - but I'm not an asshole and I know I how to be nice and comforting if the situation calls for it, even if it's not emotionally motivated.

Many were just stereotypes and don't fit with my own views of what makes someone masculine or feminine.

And why does it matter so much if someone is AROUSED by a certain kind of work/clothing ? I think the test is putting too much stock into the old idea that transsexuals (largely MTF) experience things like autogynephilia. It's an unrelated concept that may or may not present in trans* people. I couldn't answer some of the questions correctly because of the association with arousal.

While the test itself isn't worth all that much, I think it can make people think - no matter if their results are "right" or "wrong". They can look at the questions and work out how they feel about them and the "answer".

If a professional wanted me to take that test, I would be offended and explain that it was outdated and biased and that I could relate myself to them in a better and more concise manner without it. But for the lulz, sure, why not.

I remember taking it two times. First it told me my brain processes were masculine, then androgynous. Either times, I was a crossdresser? I guess it makes sense, but clothes aren't inherently gendered in my head... the only pleasure I get from dressing in women's clothes as a transman is that of it being usually classier? (of course, my tastes are changing now that I know more about male clothes!)
Also, I spent most of my childhood isolated, so I don't really think the socialisation parts would apply to me (on an online test, a real psych would take it in account), even if the test wasn't biased. I've been too influenced by that.

I feel like most of these tests are bunk. No test can determine your gender identity or needs for medical procedures-- only you can. That's not to say don't take them. They can give you interesting things to think about, especially if you're questioning. Just don't rely on it too much, an don't believe everything you read from a test.

Yeah most of them are but it's still interesting/amusing to see the results and how the test is gone through. Hehe

A friend reminded me of this test, and I decided to take it a couple days ago. I think online tests rely heavily on stereotypes and assumptions based on artificial roles, but here was my result:

- Your Raw Score is: 315, which indicates that overall you are Androgynous
- Your appearance is Masculine
- Your brain processes are mostly that of an Androgynous person.
- You appear to socialize in a feminine manner.
- You believe you have major conflicts about your gender identity.
- You indicated you were born Male.
ANALYSIS:
Male to Female Transsexual in doubt about your ability to successfully transition.
NOTES:
• Your Answers indicate your psychological state has likely prevailed since you were quite young

That said, it's important to keep in mind that YOU must decide how you identify, not a silly pseudo-scientific test. I thought my results were interesting and not particularly surprising.

I looked at the test, but it was way too long with too little merit for me to actually bother taking it.

Haha, my friend was curious as to what my result would be currently. Took me like 30 minutes though, so I know what you mean. It is pretty silly.

I just took this out of curiosity, since I hadn't heard of it before. My results:

Your Raw Score is: 425, which indicates that overall you are Androgynous
Your appearance is Quite Female
Your brain processes are mostly that of a Androgynous person.
You appear to socialize in a feminine manner.
You believe you have mild conflicts about your gender identity.
You indicated your were born Female.
ANALYSIS:
Female to Male Crossdresser
NOTES: You are in a statistical minority as a bisexual crossdresser. Most crossdressers are heterosexual. Your motivation for crossdressing may be driven by the binary nature of your sexuality, as a way to more fully explore the Male gender role.

I find this interesting, as I wouldn't really consider myself a crossdresser, although I do have a mixture of both women's and men's clothing. I just get what I like and think of it as mine.

Also, I find it interesting how many spelling mistakes the test had...
