Are you? Or met anyone? I recently met and mtf who thought it was off I was trans AND gay. Was shocked that another trans person saw it as weird.
Do you know anyone who is both gay and trans?

I'm trans and bi/pan.

That's odd, you'd think someone else who had some knowledge of gender etc would know that gender and sexuality aren't related. I'm trans and pan and my boyfriend is a gay trans man.

I am trans and in a perfectly happy homosexual relationship, though my sexuality is really more gray-asexual.

Oh, and then the next day Rivers' boyfriend stumbles upon this thread~!
I'm male-identified and in a homosexual relationship. My MtF/DMAB sister identifies as a lesbian. Personally, I don't find it strange at all. Just like cisfolk, our sexuality and our physical (or mental, or emotional, or what-have-you) sex has no baring on our sexuality.
Heteronormative is an exciting word, and seems to apply to a distressingly vast number of situations.
Honestly, I seem to carry myself better identify better with other men when considering myself as a gay man, though my current formal sexuality identity is "pansexual". I guess "gay" just suits my current intense preference for the male form over the female form better. And it isn't like we've got much cultural/media representation for what a "pansexual" is, other than Jack Harkness of course.

i also find it kind of weird too that someone who is also trans was surprised by meeting another trans person who happens to be gay. I myself have been in mostly hetronormative relationships, but still see myself as queer/pan - as are many of my friends, trans or not.

Roxen
I'm a trans-guy and I'm mostly gay. It confuses people, and I've never understood why. Seems only logical to me that trans people should come in all the same varieties that cis people do.
03/16/2013
Actually, at least half, if not more, of the trans folks i've known are either gay, bi, or pan. i've met a few who are straight but most seem to be at least open to the idea of being with someone of the same sex or gender.

I've met plenty of non-straight trans people, including myself! I very much identify as a man and I'm very much only interested in men (with a rare exception here and there). Sexuality and gender identity aren't linked, I don't know why she thought it was strange!
03/31/2013
Of course, I identify as pans. I don't think it would be weird at all for a trans individual to be ANY sexual identity! (I just ask before I hit on them and make them uncomfortable... lol!!)
03/31/2013
Yes, possible, definitely possible. I'm myself a gay FTM.
04/01/2013
I'm nonbinary but transmasculine, and I consider myself gay. Gender identity isn't dependent on sexuality or vice versa, so you find all sorts of mixes.
04/03/2013
im a straight transman but i have a few friends that are mtf lesbians
04/14/2013
trans and gay. we're not as rare as people like to believe

I am FTM and gay, and I almost always ended up with bisexual or gay guys before I transitioned. My current partner was with me before I transitioned and supported me throughout.

My wife is a transwoman and mostly lesbian. It does throw a lot of people off because they figure you're changing gender to be with the same gender and not be gay. but gender identity and sexual orientation have nothing to do with each other. and my wife isn't a super girly girl either, so that throws people. why would a man want to be a butch lesbian? but that's not the deal. she just wanted to be who she was on the inside, on the outside. and on the inside, she was/is a butch lesbian.

what is funny though, I tease her and call her hetero, because lately she has found a couple of boys cute. boys NEVER interested her before she started hormones. it's an ongoing interesting debate we monitor.

It doesn't seem weird to me, but before I was well educated about trans it did. That a trans person thought that... i dunno.. kinda doesn't seem right, but who knows...

I think it's easy to be strictly gay before you transition, because admitting you like the opposite sex makes you feel like less of the gender you are (a pre-op FTM would have a hard time coming out as bi because they might feel like less of a man)

I'm a queer, poly, kinky transguy I have a lot of friends who identity similarly

Right over here! (:
09/22/2013
A lot of my friends are, actually! It's not that odd at all.

Gender identity and sexual orientation are separate from each other so I don't think its any weirder to be trans* and gay than it is to be trans* and anything else. I think that assuming all trans* people want to be straight or are straight is a very assimilationist way of viewing identity and that's boring.

I have! Sexuality is fluid, and exists on a continuum - not rigid boundaries. Power to the explorers!

I am trans and gay
03/21/2014
I've known quite a few non-hetero trans folks, I myself am bisexual and trans.
