Fear

Contributor: HannahPanda HannahPanda
My partner is bi-gendered and lives in the state of NY. After recent news reports of a man attacked for being gay around where she lives, I'm so scared for her to go out anywhere at night, even home from work. If you or your partner feels this way, could you post? I know I'm not alone with the fear, but I literally get nervous every time she doesn't text me back right away.

I dont think being paranoid is a good thing, I can understand worrying but when it becomes debilitating you need to change.
People in our community will unfortunately be the victim of horrible crimes but when you look at how many of us there are and how rarely it actually happens I don't think it is worth constantly being nervous.

If you change yourself for them, or get nervous because of them, you have let them win.

Just be cautious and don't put yourself into avoidable dangerous situations thats all you can really do.

The buddy system is so wonderful. There really is strength in numbers, and you are less likely to be attacked if you're in a crowd of friends who support you!
