A very close friend of mine is now m2f trans. and she has severe anxiety, and bipolar disorder. She had issues with both, and her family was both judging of her mental illness, and her coming out as trans, but she is in her early 20's now, and has gone through everything including surgeries. Her family is now accepting (for the most part) of her being a woman, and realizes that her mental illnesses are something she can't control and that she isn't "faking" when she is upset, or depressed, she really does have a problem.

I am not trans, but I have bipolar disorder and IED as well as anxiety and have panic attacks.
