That's the first time I've ever heard that term, and I don't really care for it.

Doesn't bother me in the least, although it seems that people are coming out with more and more new terms for things that aren't really necessary.

-shrug- Virgin works better for me. Rather not complicate things with unnecessary terms.

I guess whether or not you find the use of the term "gold star" offensive, would throw back as to how you personally feel regarding being gay is/is not a choice.

I have to refer back to the use of "gold star" from elementary school as a reward for a completed work; eg:"Got a gold star on the paper". It seems a rather childish way to refer to anyone, but then again, I feel the same way about the term "gay". Trying to classify people at all rather than just accepting them for who they are is just plain stupid and doesn't do anyone any good.

Stupid idea. You're not better or worse for having boinked someone with different bits.

I'm hetero and even I find it rather offensive. People in the gay community shouldn't be trying to out gay each other with meaningless labels.

Yeah I don't like that term. It's like implying they got an A-Plus or something.

I can't tell whether it means the person 'did good' because they didn't have gay or bisexual sex, or whether the person who first takes their 'same sex cherry' gets a gold star for the effort?

To me, it seems a bit bi-phobic. Bisexuals probably have the least acceptance, because they're viewed as gay by the heterosexual community, but they're also viewed unfavorably in the homosexual ... more
I had never heard the term before. I'm 100% with what chicken12 posted. Nailed it perfectly IMO.

I can't say I've ever heard the term used in such a way... Though it does make me feel special somehow. (Like a gold star sticker.)
Granted, I've not had sex with a man, either... What sort of sticker do virgins get, anyway? Diamond? Platinum?

...Now it just sounds like credit cards. Too many labels.

I don't like the term because I feel it gives some kind of crown to those who fit into such a rare standard. I know in the lesbian community, if a woman's been with a guy, they are sometimes frowned upon and you'd be surprised at how quickly lesbians can bully other lesbians because they are not "gold stars." I don't like this kind of lingo or standard and feel it shouldn't even exist.

I've never heard the term either, but given its fairly clear heteronormative baggage ("gold stars" connote good/preferred things and prioritizing heterosexual sex over homosexual or other non-heterosexual sex is not cool), I'm not a fan.

just another way for people who exclusively like the same sex to make bisexuals and other queers feel unwelcome...

I freakin HATE it. Ugh. It totally delegitimizes my sexual orientation, as a dyke who's been with cis-men in the past. It turns sexuality into a competition, which it shouldn't be (unless, you know, it's consensual... ).

However, the term "gold star" is ... more
This.
