I feel like it's often easier to come out to your friends than your family, especially parents. We grow up but we never quit looking for their approval. If you don't mind sharing your story, how did you come out to your family and how did they react? If you haven't come out to them, why not?
How did you come out to family?

I wrote them a letter. It was a bit of the chicken way to do it, but it worked.

I came out to my parents in January when I was talking about being involved in my school's gay-straght alliance. My dad just looked at me and asked if I was bisexual. I nodded. He asked me not to cut off all my hair, and that was that!

I just came out to my parents. Well, first I came out to the world via a facebook note, then I came out to my parents on the phone. I'm 27 and it took me years to be ready to do it. I knew how they would react - my mom doesn't believe bisexuality exists! She also thinks homosexuality is a "fad" and people are doing it because its popular. (Crazy... I know). Knowing this ahead of time made it really difficult.
She was very upset about it and she's very confused... in the end she said she still loves me even though she doesn't understand. I'm still her daughter and that will never change. You can read my full coming out story on my blog at link

came out to my mom, who said something along the lines of 'well duh, bab. i mean, you did snog your best friend (female)'.
and i was all... oh yeaahh...
hmm
i guess i'm kinda... 'gay'? O.o
i didn't really connect the word with what i was for a long time.

My sister was probably the first to know out of anyone. She is my best friend and we are very close. I told her in person.
I sent my mom and email. Hahaa.
I'm not really sure my dad even knows. Though it's kind of of a mute point now, I suppose, given my being in a relationship with a guy. (Though I think my dad had his suspicions.)
