I've had the pain since my guy is a bit large especially for anal. Sometimes if I don't relax enough, I'll be sitting a bit weird for a few days. Too much strain on the anus either pushing things out or having things pushing in can cause small tearing or fissures which are painful blister like soars that go away with time, but can pop and bleed.

If you don't have any of the symptoms JR mentioned, you could have also bruised your prostate. I've never experienced this (as I have no prostate to bruise) but it happens and can be a bit tender for a few days.

If the soreness is a couple of inches up inside it might be that your prostate took a harder beating than it likes, if it's right at the anus or immediately inside than it's something else.
There are a couple of possibilities:
First, did you use enough lube? Sounds like a stupid question, but you can use a whole bunch of lube and not have it be effective. I'm glad I found this post. A week ago I got a new anal toy (Hand Maiden) that is absolutely freaking amazing. As for damage...yes, it can range from creating an anal tear, and fissure infection, to tearing the intestinal mucosa and creating peritonitis. That is why one needs to pay CAREFUL attention to any PAIN caused during anal. Use TONS of lube...then use more, and once it is too much...THEN add lots more!!!!
Numbing anal lubes are also not a good idea for the very reason they prevent you from knowing when things are STARTING to go wrong.
