It's different for everyone.

My hymen wasn't broken until I had sex the first time and I bled a little, a few drops. It was quite painful bcs the guy was larger than average and we weren't using lube. The guy was very forceful.

After the first time I never bled again from sex. Sex was very painful at the beginning but eventually, over time, things got better. Especially when I met the right person.

It only hurt my wife the first time. She did not really bleed either. There was alittle, maybe a drop or two. But naughty student is right, it is different for each person. It will depend on if your relaxed, how big he is, how you guys do it, ect... Just make sure you are with the right person.

I had been using tampons for a bit, and also bought a dildo, because I didn't want sex to hurt the first time. I don't ever remember breaking my hymen or any blood or pain with anything, so it's possible I broke it as a child (horseback riding, falling, being a crazy monkey, whatever). When I lost my virginity, it was tight, but not painful. Use lube and if you want to get comfortable, buy a dildo and get to know your body.

But there will not be a lot of blood, even if you are breaking your hymen when you lose your virginity; there will only be a few drops.

I'd already been using toys and tampons and I didn't bleed at all. It hurt, but it wasn't as painful as I expected. It was mostly...achy.

You might want to check out a site like Scarletteen.com - lots of good first time info.

It was uncomfortable at first the first time I had sex, but my hymen had already been broken from falling on things or using tampons. I just wasn't used to anything as big as an erect penis going in there (and we didn't know exactly what we were doing, both being virgins and all).

The movies always show so much blood for a couple of reasons. First, we live in a sex-negative culture. Enough people think it's good to moritify young women like yourself about sex. Second, in many cultures being able to show that a bride is a virgin on her wedding night is very important, and it is through blood on the sheets that this is proven. Third, in former times in our culture, the more blood on the sheets, the better. For the above two reasons. Does that makes sense?

Two of the very first erotic novels I ever read depicted free-spirited women intentionally marrying their husbands while menstruating to prove they were indeed virgins and oops just happened to get her period the same night! I thought it was brilliant!

Also sex is not supposed to hurt and you should not expect it to hurt. If its painful your probably not aroused enough. I HIGHLY suggest masturbation. I shunned it my entire life and just recently discovered it (I'm 19 & have been sexually active for 3 years). You can learn so much about your body, and it will definitely prepare you for sex. I really regret not masturbating earlier but its never to late to start

That's a really good point, if you expect it to hurt, it will hurt because you'll be tense when he tries to insert. Just relax, and breathe into it, smile, and open up.

The first time I had sex it did not hurt and I did not bleed. We took it nice and slow and luckily the guy had a very average sized penis, so no cervical ramming was involved. Just lube up and take it slow and you will be fine! Relax!

The first time I had sex there was no pain and no blood. Probably because I'd been active in sports and been wearing tampons for years. And I'd done other sexual things and masturbated for years before ever having sex.

I "popped" my cherry by getting fingered. So I didn't bleed when I lost my virginity, but I do remember that it was extremely painful! Especially when I went to the bathroom, I also bled quite a bit.

Wow, everyone here keeps saying that their first time was painful, or that they bled. But I never experienced any form of discomfort or bleeding my first time. And we were going at it for awhile.

I didn't bleed nor did it hurt, if anything; it was a little disappointing, no magic, non of "this is so special" nonsense. I was with someone who cared a lot about me and was patient with me until I was ready but no fireworks, no orgasm for me just him falling asleep after.

It depends entirely on your body. I had a thick hymen and therefore it was a little difficult, even with lube, and it was painful but once he was in, the pain stopped. I bled like crazy though, and for a couple of days afterward. All the lubrication and relaxation and the gentleness just didn't help in my case. But it wasn't horrifically painful. It was just achey, then a short sharp pain, and that was it. NOT the end of the world pain wise, at all.

I barely bled my first time. My first time wasn't very painful, just a bit uncomfortable and awkward for a few moments.

As long as you spend plenty of time on foreplay, and use some lube you should be fine

Like a lot of people have said, it really varies from one woman to another, but I would say it's unlikely that it will hurt as much as you're afraid it will. If you've done anything like play sports, take dance lessons, use a tampon, etc, there's a good chance your hymen has already broken/started to wear away (incidentally, some women are born without one, so you may be worrying for nothing).

Based on personal experience, though, I would say whether or not it hurts has less to do with the hymen and more with the particular circumstances surrounding the act itself. I lost my virginity to a man who, to be blunt, was on the small side, and I wondered what all the fuss was about--I didn't bleed at all, and was only a bit uncomfortable at times. That being said, I later did bleed a little the first time I had sex with a larger guy; I was turned on but my body just wasn't used to it and I probably clenched up a bit. Even then, though, it was just a couple drops of blood, and it didn't happen again. If you relax, indulge in a lot of foreplay, use lube if you need it, it really shouldn't be too bad.
