The Oedipus Complex

" It is the fate of all of us, perhaps, to direct our first sexual impulse towards our mother and our first hatred and our first murderous wish against our father. Our dreams convince us that this is so."
--Sigmund Freud

So I recently had a sex dream about my father. I am not pleased about this; it has me completely freaked out. In the dream I was with my father, and we kept trying to get rid of my mother. About halfway through the dream, I realized how wrong it was and I woke up immediately. I haven't been able to face him since (I'm home with them for Christmas; I'm leaving tomorrow, thank goodness).

I'm curious if any of you have had sex dreams about parents? I've talked to friends and am grateful to hear I'm not the only one. I wish I could just have a regular old sex dream! But no, mine always have to be off the wall.

I haven't had one with my parents, but I have had one about my brother which I also found to be disturbing. I think a lot of people have had a sex dream that they wish they wouldn't have had.

Ah, I thankfully never had one about my sister... I think that would be even more disturbing to me.

I've had a sex dream about my mother several years ago. I think I read somewhere that having sex dreams about your family is your subconscious telling you that there's a part of their character you wish you had. I'm choosing to believe this rather than the alternative. lol

To paraphrase Freud; "Sometimes a dream is just a dream."

Maybe you're looking for meaning where there is none.

Hah, I'm not really looking for a meaning, per se. It's just gotten me thinking, and I was curious how common it was amongst you all to have similar dreams.

I do tend to pick apart my dreams though. I think there is usually something to be said based on what you dream about.

Freud made a lot of assumptions. Maybe it's some manifestation of another emotion, or maybe it's just your subconscious screwing with you for fun.

Perhaps your subconscious is trying to tell you you've read too much about Freud, haha. But poppybe is right, according to Freud and other dream analysts, sex in dreams is rarely really about sexual desires.

Freud have any reason for not dreaming? or no recollection of them at least?

He: You should consider a lobotomy. It would help with the dreaming and with caring about it afterward! ps. If there's a hell, I'm going.

She: *facepalm* No words.
