Green Aphrodisiacs

Contributor: LicentiouslyYours LicentiouslyYours
Chloe Wittkop's article on making green choices when picking your aphrodisiacs this Valentine's Day (or any day) really got me thinking about what impact sex (or things we use, related to sex) can have on our environment.

Which, if any, of the foods on her list have been effective for you? Do you or will you follow the advice she's given on making sustainable choices? Or do you even care about such things?

I have never had a food make me feel more or less in the mood. Some foods taste as good as sex feels but, seriously...
Chocolate? Just makes me feel tired!

Ditto. Maybe it's because I grew up in a family where food was really enjoyed for its own sake, for the textures and flavors and such, but I've never associated foods with sex. (with the exception of the occasional penis-shaped mushroom) I've never had any of the foods mentioned, or any other, make me feel randy.

Chocolate on occasion, or something sweet like fruit, especially when I haven't for a while sometimes turns me on, but I don't know if it's really putting me in the mood, or that the food itself is so good it's almost orgasmic. Otherwise food just doesn't make me more or less in the mood.

Just saw this post -
ALL the ingredients in home-made absinthe (the Green Fairy) are from a health food store, and several of them are well-known aphrodisiacs. One of my Goddesses says that consistently, my absinthe makes her more in the mood, and provides her with the best dual cultivation she's ever had...
PS Also makes her own personal scent "subtly sweet"

Yeah, I read somewhere that the whole aphrodisiac thing is a myth. I haven't ever had a food make me feel more in the mood either.

Yanno, it might be "all in your head" but I kinda think that's the point. Any food, activity, thought, phrase to read or picture to look at is a potential aphrodisiac if it sparks those feelings of passion, don't ya think?

Just because you can't produce scientific proof of say an increase in the chemicals that produce arousal doesn't mean aphrodisiacs don't work.

Question, Laurel: Would the pleasure chemicals in the brain have anything to do with it? Dopamine has been associated with both food and sex and the pleasures we get from both.

Yeah, you're right. Our psychological associations can be really powerful. I can definitely see how strawberries and the juicier fruits and chocolate could work as an aphrodisiac (strawberries are definitely sexy), but as far as oysters or asparagus? Not so sure. That may just be because oysters have always grossed me out, though. Blech.

FYI - foods high in zinc - like oysters are thought to have an impact because semen has a high zinc content. How that becomes an aphrodisiac is beyond me!

He: I might be able to get a blow job immediately if I had a big enough piece of chocolate.

She: It's true.

He: I'm going to the store.
