Your first Sexscapade

What was it like the first time you purchased a sex toy? Was it awkward? How old were you?
What about condoms? Any odd stories in regards to purchasing sex related products?

For me, I walked into a sex store and before I could even consider the toys I was IDed multiple times. They swore up and down my ID was a fake and I had to bring in a friend who knew the manager to convince them I really was of age. It was both amusing and embarrassing.

I purchased MY first toy online (researching while 17, ordered as soon as I turned 18). No fun story . But my first guy did buy a little plastic vibe from Spencer's for us to use (while I was on vacation, I thought he was joking when he said he was looking at vibrators). It was a nice thing to purchase, but it didn't really get put to good use. Then he got his friend (a 7' ex-army dude with a giant scar down his forehead) to buy us some of those metal handcuffs covered in hot pink fur. The friend worked at the dance studio I went to... 10x more awkward dancing tango with a scary tall dude when he handed off ridiculous-looking handcuffs to your boyfriend with you standing right there .

The first time I encountered condoms was me finding them in my first boyfriend's car while searching for sunglasses or a CD or something. We hadn't even kissed yet, so I was pretty shocked. First time I went to buy condoms was with him when we realized that he needed larger condoms. We got a lot of dirty looks when we were standing debating how many to get, and then we got a skeptical look from the cashier (I'm tiny, he weighed at least twice as much as me, maybe that was it?) It just felt awkward... But at least we didn't have to ask to have the display case unlocked!

I'm glad I'm done with that relationship...

It was 25 years ago. Stores were a lot different back then, kind of dingy, dark and nasty. And I say that as a guy. I remember being kind of turned on, but at the same time felt definitely uncomfortable. I bought my wife a standard straight plastic vibrator (it was 25 years ago after all) and left. I am glad times have changed.

I was 16 or 17, he was 17 or 18, we were in the back of Spencer's saying that we were picking out a gag gift for another couple friend of ours to the people that happened to be with us. Condoms weren't so bad, but for a long time we did try to make sure we weren't buying from stores our parents shopped at regularly. I know now that's just a wee bit ridiculous, but I didn't want anybody I might have known to know I was buying condoms. I still get a little nervous buying condoms, even though I'm married. It's easier just to buy them all online, cheaper and a better selection.

It wasn't awkward at all for me. In terms of buying condoms, that was never awkward for me either. I was fairly young, but it didn't embarrass me in any way. You have to do what you have to do, you know?

My first toy was a gift when I was about 16 for my birthday. It was really awkward for one because I had the hardest time putting in the batteries, and then I had no idea how to use it. It was a rabbit vibrator, and had triple stimulation - which I never even knew existed, oddly enough. Both the anal and the clitoral ticklers looked identical, so It was a constant game of switching back and forth. Not even the shaft looked like a real penis, more like some oddly shaped red dildo with cheap beads inside.

I had to call up my cousin at 2am to ask for help. I knew she owned a bunch because I had seen them once or twice before under her bed when I was looked for my shoes, and I figured she would know what to do.

She literally came over and stood outside the bathroom, coaching me on what to do, how to insert the anal piece, and explained to me for an hour what the clitoris was. I seriously didn't even know what it was, even though I had already lost my virginity. I felt like a kinder again! She might as well have been holding my hand!

In the end, I figured out how to use it and it was fun to have. The only issue was that the toy wasn't intense enough for me after one or two uses. It was probably from Spencer's Gifts, but I don't know for sure. I ended up trashing it since it was cheap, and I also felt guilty about using it.

Later when I turned 18 I ended up going on a HUGE toy shopping spree... I mean, a HUGE HUGE HUGE shopping spree. I ended up buying 3 mini vibes, one glass dildo, one way-too-expensive suction cupped dong, and a stroker for my fiance. I wish I remembered how I managed to store those toys out of my parents' sight!

I got my first toy when I was 16 by ordering it online. I did the same with condoms when I was 15. I was always the first home so this was easy to get away with. I still have not bought toys or condoms in a store, online is the way to go.

Buying toys and condoms embarrassed me for a very long time so much so that I could have passed on the whole sex thing all together. When we needed anything (condoms, lube, etc..) the boyfriend always went to get it instead of me. I was ridiculously happy to find eden because it meant no more awkward trips to the store, but now it's not an issue for me at all.

The first sex toy i had was at 16, but the boyfriend bought it and the first sex toy i bought myself was online at 19.

Age 25, Spencer's, cheap plastic vibe, with my then-husband. Two/three years married at that point, and he had virtually no libido at all while I was raring to go all the time. He hoped a toy would take the burden off him from my 'insane sex drive'. (Yeah, wtf?)

That's pretty much it - my first introduction to toys was due to a lazy-ass husband who thought I was a freak because I actually wanted to have sex with the man I was married to.

Hence part of the reason he is an EX-husband.

Wow, I have to say your story is pretty surprising. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. I dated someone like that once and it was a killer on my self esteem at the time. I'm glad you moved on from him.

The first "sex related" item I bought was Ortho Gynol spermicide, while I was still a virgin. I knew I was going to be having sex with My Man soon, and I wanted to be prepared. Condoms were not as common then as they are now, plus he's a big boy and they didn't have Magnums then, if I remember (maybe they did, I didn't buy condoms back then) so I bought the spermicide, didn't get carded (I was about 16) and my friend and I took them to the park and threw away the package and put every syringe of spermicide in a tampon wrapper, because my mother would go through my purse.

A short time later I went on the Pill and one time I went to pick up my prescription (I always looked a lot younger than I was and I was young) and the tech at the pharmacy yells at the pharmacist, "Can you come over here, this Little Girl wants her birth control pills." It was none of that woman's business. It was better than my getting pregnant at 16, and I could have been using them for cramps or heavy flow or anything.

By the time we started buying sex toys we had been having sex for many years, I had bought condoms without fear and My Man bought my first few toys. No embarrassment since then.

I've only gotten toys online, so I don't have any stories about that. I actually bought my first pack of condoms today though. I felt awkward about it but I guess it's no different than when I get my birth control pills and I've never thought twice about that.

Used to be Adam and Eve Mail Order. Even when married, years ago, there were no real "adult toy stores" anywhere we lived. First time we DID have a "toy shop" open up it was AMAZING, in that it was bright, open, with young ladies greeting you at the door like it was a high end boutique. They set the standard HIGH and thankfully we have such a store in our town now. However....sorry to say for them....our FAVORITE is now (and we think forever), EF. Choices, deals and community.

I have always tried to be "prepared" and even though it was decades ago, I recall being SO embarrassed and mortified when going into a drug store and, as a young lady, asking for a box of condoms. The very young guy behind the counter leaned over (I am sure he was getting his thrill), and asked "are these for him to "pop you in the pussy or butt"? I nearly fainted from embarrassment. He then says "I'm asking since if I have different kinds..some are thick and some are thin" (He went on to explain which is used for what...trying to be serious in "educating" the poor shaking and blushing girl in front of him. I never..ever bought anything like that again from a male salesperson.
