As opposed to just soup and water?
Is it worth buying toy cleaner?

Yes, Soap can eventually leave some residues and the cleaners are made for toy cleaning.

When I was looking up the Betty Dodson's Vaginal Barbell, I came across Betty Dodson's blog and personal review of her product. In the comments section there was someone who was saying that "sex toys should never be shared and cleaning with soap and water wasn't a good idea because soaps leave residues, so you should use toy cleaners only." Betty had replied with a comment saying this was a germaphobe's way of cleaning. However, you have to take into consideration the ingredients that are in your toy cleaners. Some of them are harmful as well.
If you want to spent the extra money for a toy cleaner, by all means do so. However, I never have. I wash all my toys with soap and water. I've never had any issues with residues. Just be sure to rinse them thoroughly.

well researched!! Ive been curious about this for my wife. We use hot water with soap and rinse well, but we are relatively noob to the use of them.

I make sure I use toy cleaner on the masturbators and other porous materials--it seemed to help preserve them as opposed to the ones we had prior to purchasing a cleaner.

I like toy cleaner better.

I feel much safer using a toy cleaner, as opposed to soap and water. I think it was a worthwhile investment.

I don't see the point in buying a cleaner when soap and water works perfectly fine. Total waste of money, IMO.

Depending on the toy, i'd say soap and water is just fine as long as you rinse well. But if you're sharing, toy cleaner might do the job better

I think antibacterial soap and warm water are just fine. Save the money and put it towards more toys.

Eh, I just use soap and water!

I do not recommend washing your toys in soup
