Is the economy downgrading your sex life?

Contributor: Booktease Booktease
This is a question discussed in a recent article on CNN.com. According to the article by Ian Kerner, a sexuality counselor and New York Times best-selling author, the economy right now has currently put a bit of a damper on people's sex lives, making it harder to take romantic vacations, go out on date nights and even get babysitters. What do you think?

If anything, it's made it better. Without a lot of money to go out and stuff, we stay in and spend a lot of time in the bedroom.

Yes. I haven't been able to get work so I can save money to buy a ticket to visit Master in England.

The only recreation we can afford is sex!

Although, when things are really bad (not being able to meet bills on occasion etc) he sometimes pulls away. We always make up in a day or two, and I remind him that the sex will help him relax.

The economy sucks. I wonder how the Tea Party sleeps at night at all....

Nope. We barely go on vacations and date nights anyway, so we haven't noticed a difference.

Money doesn't affect my sex life - sex is free! My boyfriend and I are pretty poor, but that's because we're students working part-time jobs, not because of the economy. We still go on lots of dates. There's plenty of fun and romantic things you can do for little or no money. And with the free assignments and points here I can get toys, lube, condoms and everything else we need for sex. The only problem I have related to money and sex right now is paying for my birth control pills. I've had to cut back on other things to afford them, but in September I'll have insurance again so that will make it a lot easier.

I agree. You really don't need fancy vacations or dates to have sex. Just do it!

Same here. We both just graduated not that long ago, so we're used to the not having money bit. :-P

I agree - when there's so much doom and gloom out there, having an uplifting sexual encounter helps us both stay positive.

not as many romantic nights and stuff make less "let's just fuck for the hell of it sex". but it's great free entertainment, so I do it a lot more

It sort of is. There are toys I wish I could purchase that I can't at the moment and it makes me sad. As for sex with the bf, it also affects it since we are in a LDR relationship and since he's in school and not working I'm the one paying for plane tickets all the time.

We're in the exact same boat both of us being students. Sometimes the free dates are the best kind

We're not big spenders, and I'm not crazy about vacations. I prefer sleeping in my own bed, rather than wondering if the hotel beds has bedbugs! The economy might have us a bit stressed out, but it will not affect our sex life.

The price of gas and dinner out is really a deterrent. Particularly relationships with those you don't live with.

I need to be honest. Sometimes the bills are so overwhelming, My Man can't even think about getting an erection.

I can usually coax one out of him, but things are SO bad, it seems like sex is one of the only ways we can get our minds off of the Horror of this economy.

We try really hard to not let the bad things impact our sex life. But, bill paying days seem to be the worst for our sex life.

It didn't used to be like this, this is only been the last 7-8 years that things have gotten progressively worse. During the Clinton Administration I would have said we were "tentatively mildly well off" thinking things would only get better, or at least stay the same, now we live pay check to pay check.

We did ALL the right things. We both went to college, we worked, we bought our home, we pay our taxes, we refinanced when interest went down, we pay our bills.... we are now worse off than we were 10 years ago. THAT isn't supposed to happen.

I put the blame soundly on the Bush/Cheney Administration and their favoring their "base." The Rich. (Bush said it himself, the asshole.)

Oh, goodness. I can totally relate to your feelings here. You mention going to college, working, etc. My partner and I both just graduated and I'm terrified. The job market is awful and I now have student loans. Terrifying.

We've recently had to move into his parents house because I am a student and he has to work full time just to pay our car bills and stuff. I haven't had health care since I was 18. If you think these things are an aphrodisiac, you are wrong.
