Horny Goat Weed?

Contributor: Tori Rebel Tori Rebel
I've read about this ridiculously named product in a few places, and I understand it supposedly has great sexual effects on both men and women. Has anyone here tried it (any gender) and how did it work or not work on you? What were the most noticeable effects? Also, is there a brand preference?

I've heard of it.

I think it got lumped into the same category as Spanish Fly. If there is a natural substance that can do better than a prescribed drug, it usually become illegal or dismissed (salivia anyone?).

Plus, Horny Goat Weed's name just reminds me of the goat character from Adam Sandler's first comedy album.

I totally agree on the name. But I've read some really great reviews and opinions of it and the worst of the more negative reviews seems to simply be "it didn't do anything"... I figure it might be worth a shot if there aren't any very serious side effects. I was hoping someone here would have some personal experience to share.

Hathor Aphrodisia Lubricant Pure has it. I can't say whether it really has much effect.

I read one article that called it a 'limp substitute' for viagra. It acquired its name after Chinese farmers noticed that goats that ate it were more sexually active than goats that didn't.

I haven't taken it in pill form. I can only say that the effect of having it in a lube is subtle.

I actually have a sample back of that lube...I'll have to give it a try. I didn't know that was in it, thanks!!!

Someone needs to go out, get some, try it for a week or two and report back!

I agree... I'm really surprised no one here has tried it or is more familiar with it!

I would volunteer for my husband to do that, but I would have to check with him first. I have read quite a bit about it. And from what I've read it needs to be taken in higher concentrations than are possible in pill form. There is a liquid tincture that we've been wanting to try though.

I saw the tincture as well. I'd ask my boy just to try it but he's very leery of anything like that, herbal, natural, or not, after having some very negative pharmaceutical experiences.

If someone's testing it, they might need a goat for a control in the experiment.

reminds me of a Capitol One add:
"That'll be adult and one goat"

I tried it, it didn't do much for me but I was on birth control. I LOVE the Hathor lube though....

I have heard the same thing about other supplements before. Where the claims are somewhat true, but what they are selling you is worthless. Like the 5 hour energy drinks. I was reading that most people who eat meat are fine with B Vitamins. And since B vitamins are water soluble, anything extra just washes out. So an energy drink containing 1,000 x your daily dose is pretty worthless.

Every 'male' sexually-oriented supplement out there has the stuff in it - but it's always combined with a dozen other things like Yohombie (sp). I don't think the stuff is likely to hurt you - but like all vitamins and supplements the effects are either subtle or non-existent.

I'm one of those guys with very expensive urine - I almost never get sick - but there is no proof that it's the vitamins I take - only anecdotal evidence - but it's good enough for me - so I'll keep taking them.

I take Horny Goat Weed with Maca in it. Maca, by the way, is deserving of its own thread (adaptogenic so you can take it to regulate your hormones, whatever gender you are; it's a food technically and not a supplement, so you can't take too much...though when I do, I notice I feel like I'm a teenager...and get a couple zits..).

Goat Weed works for me SOMEWHAT. For my partner, it works like mad. I mean it's scary. It's like some crazy porn penis. BUT, he isn't as influenced by hormonal things and he can take his mind and put it elsewhere during sex. I'm all in my head.

When Goat Weed works for me, it really works. If I take it regularly, I'm pretty golden. I was rec'd Yohimbe by my doctor to offset the side effects of an SSRI I took many years ago. He was treating me for severe anxiety disorder.

The main side effects reported from Yohimbe are, uhm, racing heart, panic....yeah.

I should probably bottle & sell my pee. I take way too many supplements. But then, like you, Gunsmoke--I don't catch things other people catch, and I've never had any of the various "-itis" bugs that go around. Who knows.
