Oil for sure! We have a Dona massage candle and it didn't absorb right into the skin.

link they have these AMAZING massage bars...they are solid, and look like a bar of soap, but once you warm them in your hand, they turn into massage oil.....my favorite one is called each peach, it smells very citrusy
