Dinner Rules!

I was laughing with my fiance today when he got home because I'm making enchiladas and some stuffed poblano peppers (with other sides, because he eats like a piglet) tonight, and I had set the dining room table. I live in an apartment, and we have a fancy table that my roommate rarely uses. I'm really the only one who eats at the table. My roommate and I will make dinner, she eats on the couch, in bed, on the floor, or at the counter... while I sit down!

When I was younger, we were brought up to eat dinner as a family at the table. No matter what it was that we were eating - McDonald's, homemmade spaghetti, or cereal! We had to have all the TV's in the house off, and no lights on except the dining room/kitchen light. Radios off, and everyone joined together at the table. We also said grace before each meal, which I actually still do. So I guess I'm just a creature of habit.

Tonight my fiance and I will be eating at the dinner table, saying grace before our meals... while my roommate laughs at us! So where do you guys eat? Or do you have weird rules about dinner time like my family used to?

I can, and do, eat just about anywhere. I eat sitting at the table, on the couch, my bed, the stairs, leaning against the counter, walking around ect. One time in middle school I drank an entire smoothy while lying down. Last year I even ate a sandwich while riding my bike!!! About the only place I can't eat is on the floor. I have messed up knees so it's too uncomfortable unless there is something against my back. That said, last summer I did eat my lunch everyday for a week sitting on the ground in a game preserve in South Africa!

Both my boyfriend and I grew up eating at the table with our family for every dinner. Dinners in front of the tv were an extra special occasion when we watched family movies. We also had everything turned off and phones were off limits. I still try to do that.

My only thing is sitting down, as in I have to be sitting. Standing is ok it there's no room to sit.

Growing up, it was a late dinner (7:30-9p) at the table with the tv going. My parents still eat that way, just with another tv and a bigger main tv (speakers almost blown out on both).

My family eats dinner together at the table almost every night. My boyfriend's family doesn't, they eat in different rooms, in front of the tv or at seperate times. I cooked dinner for him at my house the other night and I got annoyed because he was texting a friend during dinner. I asked him not to and he said I sounded like his mom. Then we ended up eating dessert in the living room because he really wanted to watch hockey.

Oh Lord! When my fiance comes to my place we eat at the table, say grace, etc. However, in his home, they eat all over the place. They never sit down together at the table, even on special days like Easter, Christmas, birthdays, Thanksgiving, etc. I find it really sad, and so does he. This is why we do this at my place, or when we are together.

He does do the stupid texting at the table thing, but I have to be careful. He is in the air force and he is sometimes "on call". So I pay attention to which phone is in his hand before I go off on him. And for me, I changed all my ringtones so that I can answer for my job.

I refuse to eat in front of a TV, or while a TV is on. That's just how I do dinner!
