I stumbled upon adult movie theaters one night when looking for a regular theater my girlfriend and I could go to. We started talking about it and searched around online to see what they're all about.

Has anyone ever been to one?
Have you taken a significant other with?
Are there any decent ones in the Chicagoland area?

First, probably late 60's, early 70's, there were "adult movie houses", which were glorified "quarter" arcades, with little dirty, dark rooms, and a machine that would play about 10 minutes of a movie reel (usually silent and poor quality) for 25 cents. They really popped up all over the place. Next came "real" theaters (still pretty dirty and dark), in the "worst parts of towns", for showing full length adult movies. They drew more negative community reaction, for some odd reason, then the arcade types. However, by about 1975, video tape came to replace 8mm and Super 8 film and once that happened, porn was something you bought or rented to watch at home. It seemed like every "adult" theater evaporated from the planet. I cannot imagine that one still exists, except as a pure "retro" kind of "nasty nostalgia" thing.

I would never, ever go to one of those places. Purely for hygienic reasons, masturbating in those places is illegal, but people do it anyway and I highly doubt anyone is cleaning it up to the degree OSHA requires.

Anything near me is GROSS and I wouldn't even consider it. Maybe in a more sexual friendly state or city with some nicer, upscale accommodations.

We went to one for the first time just a couple weeks ago--it definitely dealt with the voyeur aspect of our relationship! I would not suggest taking care of your own business and also not getting too comfortable due to previous customers. However, if you have a huge purse like mine (and empty it out first, then adding sanitizer, a thick towel and such, lol, like I did) then you can have a safer and more enjoyable time.

I would never go without my hubby!!!! Find a more upscale adult 'bookstore', theater, etc. Pack your own 'bag' of safety items. Go with no expectations for the experience other than curiosity the first time--otherwise you may be setting yourself up for a bit of a rude awakening/disappointme nt.

Went to a few many years ago. Went with my wife a couple of times just for thrills. Don't live in an area that has anything like that now, but I'm sure most big cities have at least a few.
